Painting a frame

Wed Sep 23, 2009 2:56 pm

Hey guys/girls

Just wondering if anyone know, I am painting my ZX7r and it has an aluminum frame and I want to paint it black. I was wondering if anyone has painted their own frame and if they have can they make some recommendations. I was wondering if you needed some special sort of undercoat for painting on aluminum or if I have to prepare the aluminum in any particular way.

Thanks in advance
Terry

I always use "super etch" undercoat when painting ally.
But there are vastly more experienced painters around here :kuda:

Not really any different that painting mild steel.
Land Rovers have had alloy panels for the past 30 years.
As long as its spotless clean & rubbed with a scouring pad to help the (alloy) etch primmer grab a hold.
Then 2 pack as robracer said.
Its got to be CLEAN, none of that oxidisation that old alloy gets around the welds & stuff.

Thanks guys, still tossing up if I should do it or not. I'm thinking all black frame, hugger and wheels and k green fairings with k green wheel strips.
