Tue Mar 08, 2005 10:43 am

Get back from a ride on the weekend and as i walk by later i noticed a nice large screw stuck in my rear tyre!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway, its pretty flat the tyre now, so im just wondering is the puncture repairable?!
cos i dont really want to replace a tyre thats only half way through its life :?
thanks :D

mate
depends on where the damage is and how much damage (to the tyre carcass)
most items that go thru the tread can be fixed unless they tear up the
carcass, damage the tyre belts etc
sidewall punctures are not generally repairable

ask your bike shop/tyre place when you take the tyre in...

I believe you can get a plugging kit for emergrncies to get you going but I have never really seen one up close :?: this would get you to a tyre repairer at slower speeds - they shape a patch to go on the inside of the tyre carcass and also seal the hole against debris.

i rang my local bike dude and he said that they have a mushroom plug they use. so it shld be all good by this arvo :D

From what I have been told a plug is a temporary arrangement, must not do high speeds, and get it to a tyre repairer to do a proper patch on the inside of the tyre carcass asap.

I repeated myself

Actually, the mushroom plug Booze mentioned is a combination patch/plug that is fitted from the inside of the tyre.
It is the safest and best method of repairing a puncture ... other than replacing the tyre

took it in yesterday arvo and had it patched. bloke said there shouldnt be any problems, but just keep an eye on the pressure.
anyway, i guess i shld be checking through the previous posts about what tyres to use. he said he can supply and fit a michelin rear for $270...
