I would have thought that your bike would actually steer a bit quicker with a 180 on it, as opposed to a 190 ? Bunging on a fatter rear tyre might sound good.....but it will have an effect on the steering.......

There are enough members here who have done this same thing, so if they all reckon its the go, then maybe it will be OK....

I am actually dropping from a 190 rear on the MFP12 to a 180 rear for the next track day  (200 stock) - it steers quicker with the 190, and old mate tyre expert down here reckons that the Barge will steer even quicker with a 180 on the rear......

It definitely steers slower with a 190 on the rear if everything else is left stock, but of course stock is boring and a suitable lift of the rear end addresses that issue nicely.

Now putting a 180 on the Barge just sounds scary

Actually on the U.S. forum, alot of barge pilots run a 180 :? :?

my completely untechnical opinion is, that you will run out of tyre one the edge, (apparently 12's can't get to the edge of 190's anyway). the rim would be too wide and actually stretch the tyre out and make it flatter.

measure the gap under the hugger, it will tell you before and after how "tall" the tyres are.

I agree with the above o this one Gos.

You'll run out of edge grip on the 180 if on the track I reakon (road could be a different story becuase you are only doing the speed limit  ). Jak the arse end up and go the 200 on the track but get some protectors for your 12r fairing wings first as they will meet the tarmac

The widest tyre doesn't always translate to either more contact patch or more grip. Buggered if I know why, but it doesn't :?

spot on Marty, has more to do with the construcion of the tyre, pressures and where the measurements are taken from.

You know what Gos - throw a 180 and see for yourself.
As exemplified here, tyre choice is subjective

BTW - a clean/smooth semi-hijack ;)

Gos, just call up donut king & get them to construct you a nice big choc coated doughy to put on your ass end rather than the six cinnamon coated fuckers you covered your front end with a few years back...(i'm still having nightmares    ) Being choc coated it will get nice & sticky the hotter it gets too  ;)

sorta thinking ol mate Gos is liking the idea of leaving HUGE blackies with a 180 under power and generally just showing off --------------- a lot like the said donut episode I would say
