Thanks again for the advice everyone.
I only have 6 months left on the P's so i was looking to get a cheap sportsbike. I have only ever ridden trail bikes, so i'm not sure how they handle. Was hoping to get confident on a sportsbike (zx2r preferred) before upgrading to something bigger.
Has anyone been in this situation before or can tell me how different it actually is? Or should i just wait, buy a 600 and worry about it then?
Thanks
p.s. sorry for the newbie questions

Go the zx250 mate, you should get into less trouble n need less room to get out of it if you do. I was 39 befoe i owned anything bigger then a 600cc & am reapping the rewards of learning to avoid cars or more sedate scoots. Its how old you are when your still scaring yaself that matters most imho, build your skills then get the machinary that you can handle with those skills.
Cheers Brett

I don't think noob questions are a problem.
My everyday bike's a ZZR600 - and I'm thinking about getting a 250 for fun. If you're after comfort and smooth power, think about a ZZR600 or similar (even an SV650 and/or derivatives) and be very careful. If you're after something light and flickable on which one can easily "learn the ropes," get a 250.
That's my opinion. Others may differ.

It is probably easier to learn to ride a 250 fast, than a 600.
Sometimes, less is more.
If you are only planning to keep the 250 for six months, then I guess you could consider whether you can afford to take a chance on it at that price...

I have a ZX2 and absolutely love it. I have done a few laps round The Creek and with a decent set of tyres am quicker on it then on my mates gixxer750 with slicks (didn't want to damage someone else's bike). I have just put it back together after a respray and will hopefully have it up at Old Syndey Town this weekend. Due to not being able to fit a baby seat to it I am also looking to sell so if you are still looking for a bike PM me and I can give you more details.
