JJJ Hottest 100 of All Time

Sat Jul 11, 2009 4:56 pm

Is anyone listening to the Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time countdown? Two Jeff Buckley songs so far makes me a happy lassie! 100-51 is being counted down today, and 50-1 is being counted down tomorrow. It is very strange to hear the likes of Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Elton John and Rolling Stones on the J's though! I have to admit I am feeling a little old, I clearly remember when it was first done in 1989, when I was 14. I taped the top 20 in the countdown, and treasured that tape for years afterwards.

In UK, Queen Bo Rap usually wins those - I bet it's a Jacko track this year

While I liked most of the songs in the top 10, I felt there were a few which could hardly be considered all time No1's!! Even Nirvana SLTS, while it's an anthem of my later youth and somewhat of a milestone, I think there are much better songs. As for RATM at No2???? Rage are great, but not No2 in my opinion. I guess it all depends on who votes and how it is structured.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed at Sounds Like Teen Spirit getting No.1 again. Surely in the intervening 10 years, and with evolving tastes in music, there are other songs that are worthy of No. 1 status? I was very happy to have Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah at No. 3. Also, I love RATM as well, but again I think that there are more worthy songs.

they said they had over 500 000 votes.

and don't forget - this is the Hottest 100 *Of All Time* - I wasn't surprised at all when SLTS picked up the #1 possie......its basically the same audience voting, just 10 years later !!  well it is 11 actually, the last time they did a Top100 of all Time - was back in 1998.

What surprised me a 'bit'....was the lack of U2 anywhere ?? I either missed them in the playlist....or they didn't make the cut at all ??

But overall, the results were to be expected. The only other real surprise in this latest version, is the couple of Jacko songs that squeaked in due to his untimely passing.....

Esie - do you have any of the old 'Live At The Wireless' CD's ??? They are still a good listen, even after all these years......
