The internals of the Muzzy muffler on my ZXR750 track bike have broken.

As you can see it's a straight through muffler with a perforated internal tube and fibreglass packing around it.

At the track the bike isn't loud so I wondered if I should just take the internals out and leave the hollow can there?
It would save weight at least!

Anyone ever done this and how does it sound? Awful?

Will it be too loud for track days?

OR

I can shorten the Can and repack the fibreglass and make a smaller package! A mini muzzy muff! :D

What you reckon?
I live with fear everyday but on weekends she lets me ride.

Either of those options will result in a loud bike. Even track days have a decibel limit, as do race days!! Tak it to a muffler shop and have them re-manufacture it! 8)

Measure the OD (outside diameter) of the perforated pipe and the total length (bit left in the can should pull out with a bit of persuasion).. Most exhaust shops ie Carline will be able to supply though they might have to order in for you . I'd go for 304 stainless as it don't rot.
The muffler packing is available from any half decent bike shop .
I'd almost guarantee if you armed yourself with a carton of the Zorst shop manager's favourite beverage they'd happily MIG the new perforated tubing into the end cap for you.. ;) 8) .

Leaving the hollow can would [A] sound shiiiite ,[B] cost you a lot of bottom end / mid range.
