custom cowl... customisation!

Postby BarraSpalding » Mon May 18, 2009 6:39 am

okily dokily... welcome! so i'll explain what I am hoping to achieve... please feel free to comment, give advise, flame, or generally tell me i'm wasting me time.

I've sourced a custom cowl for my 02' 6r from a fella in the UK... it came with its own mounting (all be it flimsy and crap) and locking pin. Please see pics below.

What I would like to achieve is:
To take the custom cowl, and press fit it over the base of a spare OEM passenger seat - soley so it has a better mount on the bike.

What I could use a hand with is: Is there a member (pref. with a 00-02 6r - to ensure a good fit) that is proficient with doing this kinda stuff, that wants to earn a buck and do it for me. :)
Or does a member know a place I could take it to that knows what they are doing (haha... pref. QLD, and hey - townsville if i'm really lucky!)
Assumed it would need to be epoxy'd in or whatever is suggested. I just aint crafty!

Now... I have alot of pics for illustative purposes... see comments for descriptions.

The below few pics are the cowl as I bought it...

And this is it fitted to my 6r... its very very hard on the fairing itself... obviously I worry that with vibrations, bumps etc. it will rub away at the paint. You really have to put the cowl down to make the flimsy arms catch on the bike.

Ok... now here is an example of a fella from the US that has done a similar thing to what I want to achieve... but I believe he took a spare rear seat, created a shape from cardboard and started papermache'n and fiberglasses over the top. But the general finished idea is the same - custom cowl shape with OEM spare seat mounting.

Here is that mounted to the bike. It sits up a little higher than i'd like - so at least doing it the way I envisaged I can sink the rear seat mounts higher in the cowl - making it sit lower to the fairing but not touching

Everyone weigh in... any and all comments would be appreciated

i got a pyramid plastics one for my zx6r - Much better fit - i still have it here as my mate hasnt picked it up yet.

can you take the pins out and try and glue it to your seat? If i was you id buy a spare rear seat , de line in it and cut away padding to get it fitting snug

Thats exactly what i wanna do. Sent an email to a big wreckers in Sydney for the price of a spare seat - they had a few 00 and 01's being parted out.
But do u suggest leaving the foam on the spare seat? to fill out the space n such

whats the pyramid one look like... pics :kuda:
