Spanner Day Question?

Postby Disco » Wed May 13, 2009 8:17 pm

I probably like a few other member's am absolutely hopeless with doing stuff to my bike,And throw a hell of a lot of money to bike shop's to do minut thing's that could probably be done by myself if shown or given a hand......

What I'm getting at is would it be an Idea to have like a monthly or bi-monthy Spanner day where everyone could get together to learn to do thing's or do one off thing's that they may need a hand with,And rather thay pay the bike shop's an exhuberant amount of money give like a Donation to the club? That way it's a win,win for everyone....

I know Dave and other's are always more than willing to help people out but it's easier than asking for somthing for nothing all the time...

Just putting it out there for opinion......

Im not allowed to touch my bike so yeah Id be in for that once on the road  But the problem is it puts pressure on one or two members making themselves available all the time and providing numerous quantities of beer to the masses... And I know how you feel Disco. I PM for help when I really need too but its hard to keep asking!

I am not to sure what your asking Disco because just about anybody on here is willing to lend a hand at the drop of a hat! You can come around in about 2 weeks to pull my suspension and front brakes off the trackie if you want???? I mean if that's OK with Madkaw that is?????

If people are happy to host a spanner day - I think it would be better to let those people decide when is convenient to them and have them extend the offer, rather than have them feeling obliged to do something on a regular timetable.

But it's good that you started this thread, because now those who are willing to host a spanner day will know that there's some interest in it.

Thanks Dave I knew that hint wouldnt get past ya! I'll bring the beer!!! and wattie can bring the mallet!!! Firey you leave the torque wrench at home!!!

Sounds like a good idea to me. I'd be happy to do something in Vic if another couple of mechanically minded people where prepaired to help out. I'd say just keep it simple like services, checking fluid levels, brake pad changes, brake bleeding and the like.

In saying that though, We do have a number of good sponsers here that offer good deals on servicing etc and we don't want it to look like we are stepping on there toes.

Just a reminder though, there are is no such thing as a stupid question, only silly mistakes. We can help out where we can but if you happen to miss some points or can't remember when your home alone in your shed don't hesitate to ask. a phone call and maybe a little loss of face is a hell of a lot cheaper than stuffing something up.
