evolution of a postie

Nothing major yet - but I've begun making some changes, albeit minor.

This first shot is basically a general 'before' shot, however I have removed the front rubber mud-guard in this shot already (did that a week ago)...


Today I spent a bit of time checking a few things out in preparation for later changes, but I also:
- removed the skid pan
- removed useless 'toolbox' from the rack
- put the rego-label where the toolbox was (tidy up the rear a little) - I'll get a rego tube someday
- tried to remove the read rubber mud-guard. The rusty bolts seized though - no amount of WD40 has helped and I've stuffed the heads now I'll have to cut/grind them off.

So not a lot yet - but I did say it would be slow Looks a little tidier already though I think.

Next will probably be a pod-filter, and trying to get that rear mud-guard off.

Can't make it tomorrow - mother's day and all that. Gotta drive up to Gorokan then out to the Blue Mountains, so no fun ride for me.
I'll be out in a couple of week's though I think - though that'll be my Bday and I'm not sure what's planned (if anything)

Replace the handlebars with something decent.... this should improve the bouncyness of the handlebars and cut weight (the higher the weight is the worse it is for handling).... It looks like normal Motocross bars should fit, try to pick up some up cheap somewhere (even the worst of which will weigh half as much as yours)

You can gut the exhaust, getting you some tone (lol) and allowing more airflow
You will probably have to get new needles that are adjustable for the carbie. (I doubt you can get a dynojet needle, but who knows)

Since I have owned a 50cc bike I can highly recommend boring the cylinder out to 80cc, you will naturally need a new piston.... but it will significantly improve performance...

Hey Stereo - can't say as I've noticed any bouncyness of the bars (Dave#3?) and I think lower bars would be REALLY uncomfortable. But lighter would be good - they're on the list of possibles.

Gutting the exhaust would require cutting and rewelding wouldn't it? might be too big for now.

A small big-bore kit is also on the list, which seems to comprise of a 0.25 oversize piston - that apparently fits without boring (not sure yet how that works though). Supposed to take it from 105cc to 120cc. Sounds like you're the man (or one of) to pester when I get to that point

I was speaking to Gunna yesterday who mentioned a shop near the speed camera on Manns Rd is selling 150cc/5 speed kits for about $300 that can be fitted to a postie. I don't know how accurate the info is, but it might be worth pursuing.

I'd love to see a tank from the headstock to the seat (to hang on to) and a set of clip-ons

I guess a new front end might give me somewhere to clamp them, might also allow for the longer tank - you guys keep making me picture these big changes and I have to calm myself down! Them's scary mods.
I'm trying to put everything on the list though

That engine sounds attractive, but more than I'm trying to limit myself to in one go (~$100 a month - I know it's a pittance). Maybe I just won't tell the finance officer how much it was...

Here's an idea. We've all got spare bits lying around that we'll probably never use. Whatever we've got that we don't want any more lets whack it up here and see if it can be used on the postie project.

I'll go through the garage this weekend and see what I've got

If anyone has anything that would fit I'd definitely be interested.
A couple of people have mentioned via PM that they may have some things around.
If we're not sure it will fit, then you measure and I'll measure, and we'll see

Clip-ons would go on the top of the forks.

Spoke to Gunna yesterday about that 150cc/5spd combo - going to try to do a drive-by on the weekend to get their number to call and talk.
Replacing the engine, while comparatively cheap compared to other bikes, could add up to too much pretty quick - engine, plus sprocket/chain, plus gear level/cable, plus zorst.
We'll see - but it is attractive.

I reckon the clip-ons look awesome and would seriously change the handling dynamics for the better I think (getting your weight lower and further forward). Do it!
