Wind Noise in Full-Face Helmets

I'm looking for some good "in ear" noise cancelling headphones. There's a few on the market but finding opinions about how well they work whilst riding a bike is near on impossible. I want them to get rid of the wind noise whilst riding, yet allow me to hear people when I talk to them.

Thanks everyone, guess I won't be in such a hurry for a new lid after all. Regarding ear plugs, I've been using the silicone chemist shop jobs ( pink coloured, come as a block divided into 6) for sleeping for years, they work REALLY well and last for a while, but when I tried them on a ride recently, they made me feel so disconnected from everything I took them out. Those noise-cancelling jobs sound ideal, have to look into those! Cheers.

A person saying they found a Helmet noisy and so don't buy one isn't really very informative to you unless they are the same height as you and ride the same bike (with the same screen) if someone is shorter than you they me be below the wind deflected by the screen and so say brand X Helmet is VERY quiet, you may buy it and find for your height you are mid-airstream and the helmet is the noisiest thing you've ever worn! also if you are taller and get above the deflected wind it may be quieter. I hope this makes sense ... my G/F's Alcoholic sister poured me a scotch!

I have never worn them. I haven't really thought about it or considered it either. May be I should look into it.

Funnily enuf, I was at MCA on Thursday to buy some chain gel, and ran into the Arai rep in OZ (I think). Anyway, had a long chat with the bloke, nice guy, and he told me LOTS about helmet fitting. For instance, Aria is the only helmet maker who offers several different head shape profiles, i.e. round, oval, etc., and correct fitting to head shape can reduce noise. He said he always wears ear plugs anyway, so I wonder how much the head shape matters, in regard to noise He also confirmed what jonno said about noise coming from the REAR of the helmet ( I didn't mention it first, BTW) and, on the subsequent ride, I tried shoving my hand around the back of my helmet at ,say 100kph..or so, and it seemed to cut out HEAPS of noise, much more than the front. Anyway, more research required.

the noise comes from the rear of the helmet because of the turbulence caused by the shape, there isnt much that can be done to reduce that, unless you want to look ridiculous, I tend to wear the Sennheiser Earbud earphones, they block out alot of noise, but still allow enough, that when you dont have music playing, you can have a conversation. that also means that you dont have to turn your music up to damaging levels to hear it

I have been battling with different ear plugs for a while to find the most comfortable & quietest & have found the solution.
Earmould for custom fitted plugs, I use these for the road..... I don't like them for the track as they can loosen slightly & wind noise from 1 ear is very distracting.
For the track I am using Skull screws designed for musos & auto racers...... these plugs literally screw into the ear canal & provide a snug comfortable fit & at $14 are quite cheep & include a hard carry case ... Details can be found here www.hearos.com I get mine from the local guitar shop.

Just went halfs in a box of these with a bloke from work.
Cost me $20 for 100 pairs of the suckers from a crash supply place.

Wearing some now......I highly recommend them around the house when you have upset her.

I think you should be able to nick them from your workplace... businesses should be encouraging safe practices in the workplace and at home

I find a long ride is alot more relaxing and enjoyable with ear plugs in... but if i'm going for a 'frap' down the strand or quick blast thru town... I cant be bothered putting them in and taking them out frequently.

so... how do I get my hands on a KSRC neck warmer??? me want one... ya know... cuz it gets down to 20' sometimes in townsville
