evolution of a postie

Postby ty on Tue Apr 28, 2009 4:26 pm

Hey all,
I've received approval from the powers-that-be, both wife-wise and forum-wise, to get my hands a little dirty with the postie and to write up my progress through some modifications here on the site.

It's kind of an open slate at the moment. There are some things I know I'll be doing for certain, some are secrets  (though probably not well kept ;)), others are possibilities.

Likely to happen:

Less likely to happen:
  • bigger/wider wheels - mx? gpx250? (could need swing-arm modifications, or disc brake mod)
  • disc brakes - requires new front-end, probably too big a job
  • fender-ectomy - I like it as it is now I think - std but with no mud flaps

The progress will be slow, due to budget and time, but I'm hoping to be able to do 1 or 2 things to it each month.
I know some of you will be thinking 'what's the point?' or similar. But it's because I can ;)
I'm not going to be getting anything else, and I miss getting my hands dirty (mechanically that is), so this is a middle ground.

This thread will keep track of everything I do - so it will be as much a diary for me, as a potential reference for others.
Simple things may just get a photo. Big things will hopefully get blow-by-blow detail.

So if you're interesting in the evolution of a basic 2000 model Honda CT110 postie into something (hopefully) interesting and reasonably quick, then keep an eye on this thread ;)
If you don't care - don't watch ;)

Some 'before' shots, none very good - but all I have at hand

Geez you guys were quick!
:D

New pegs and bars are definitely possibilities - though there aren't many options for pegs.
I've actually looked at pegs and meant to put them on the possibilities list - OP updated.

... or the centre-stand removed. But that's a little too convenient for now.

and finally it needs a white paint job just so it will be fully "fully sick" :kuda:

At least there is no shortage of suggestions!

wow - are you guys as excited as me or what?! :D
Some things are going to be beyond my ken, or wants - a ct9r might be a little silly
Light's, fenders, etc are all doable, though the fenders are all metal - I might be better finding plastic or glass alternatives.
I think I might start up a 'suggestions' list in the OP ;)

I've seen people replace the front forks and both wheels to get disc brakes - but I think I might leave those sort of changes till I gain a bit more experience and lose the nervousness ;) - the drums aren't actually too bad.

Pipes could be possible but I think might look a little silly - http://www.dratv.com/exhaust1.html
Some options are tempting but a little pricey ;) Gonna havta find some local sources.
ty
PS. the interest is cool! :D keep the suggestions coming if you can think of anything else realistic.
Just don't expect everything to be taken on board - nor done tomorrow :D
