I hope it gets blocked in the Senate, it really is just economic stupidity and it will get spent on imported stuff anyway. They should take it and put it into something that will provide a long term benefit eg infrastructure.

You poor bastard....If you Piss in the ocean does it make a difference? ;)

My thoughts........
Those of you that have had enough of them then tune out and fuck off to the next post now.

Back in "The great depression" US president Hoover commissioned the building of a dam. Why? To do what Krudd is attempting to do now - stimulate the economy. The dam was an enormous investment in infrastructure that was not only monumental in its design and construction but monumental towards creating employment and developing a sustainable future for the region.
Here in Australia we laud the Snowy Hydro Electric scheme as a turning point in Australia's development because of the size and investment in the project but also because of the fact that it opened the doors to migrants to "the Lucky country". Without this project Australia would be a different place.
So Krudd is at a crossroads where he can be either the hero or the villain. He is currently writing his name in the history books and what he does now will make or break him and his political party. The Hydro scheme was the last big federal project that made a difference so why does he not look for something similar?
42 billion dollars is a shitload of money in anyone's terms and could be well used towards a federal project that would see future development of this country in the long term - not just his current plan of " Plasmas for everyone!".
Sure he is going to invest money into education. But fuck me what a muppet! He is going to build a language centre and something else for every school in Australia. Hows about teaching our next generation how to read, write and spell in English before they attempt Mandarin or Swahili?
Insulation to houses......Well that should prop up one industry and see tax payers dollars squandered by providing a simple service to that which is irrelevant to the greater population - but it buys votes.
What this country needs is a major investment for the long term that will see us develop further in skills and knowledge whilst providing a lasting investment in infrastructure.
Here are a few simple ideas from a simple man
1. How about an East coast pipeline that brings water from FNQ to Melb and distributes it to all point in between? Since the majority of Australias population is based within this area this will benefit the whole nation as this will create employment in every region along its path as it is being constructed, will provide further future development of farmland, thus exports and will help sustain the population in the worlds driest continent. This coud benefit SA as well by allowing a certain amount plus surplus to flow down the Murray / Darling. Instead we are building de-sal plants.

2. What about a standardised and more efficient national rail network? This would reduce the amount of trucks on the road and would make the distribution of both imports and exports far more efficient than present. Good for the environment too!

3. We have been told for the last 10 years about Australia's ageing population and the "burden" this will create on the taxpayer as less of the population is working and as they age require greater health care. So why not invest at least half of this $42b into health care and offer the rest as superannuation to those over 55 now to either assist with their current fiscal difficulties or to allow those of pre retirement age to boost what they have already and ease the burden on the taxpayer in the future.

Anyhow Kev can stuff his cash handouts up his arse - I know off 3 fucktards that will have received over $10 large for being nothing more than stupid and a drain on society. I know 10 times that who are donating to them and getting nothing back but a fucked economy and a certain recession that cant be stopped.

Sensationalism and the media without a doubt go hand in hand. But because of todays society they have to report only the titbits that float to the surface so that people can divulge it as quick as possible and then move onto another half baked story about a football player.
The facts are though that we really are facing an enormous turning point.
History is boring even when it is being made and as such the media have to jazz it up to sell.
Gagging the fuckers though would be akin to the band still playing while the ship sinks. Financial difficulties are something everyone in the developed world is now going to have to face.

Are we far enough off topic yet?

Re: KRudd's $950 payout

I agree with you Wobbles on a few points

1. Kevin needs to create infrastructure investment that moves the country forward in the short term and long term.
2. Kevin is trying to please the masses with free money.
3. The 3 projects you mention will help the economy in the short term with projects and construction as well as long term burden to the country in the future e.g relieving further drought, caring for the ill and lowerin carbon emmision by fixing public transport.

I will also go one step further and say that the last great stimulus plan was 10years ago with the 14K home buyers scheme which I believe fought off a recession earlier and also stuffed the Government coffers with the additional stamp duty and contruction taxes. This also temporarily fixed the shortage in housing problem for the governemt. Unfortunatley now housing prices have just risen with the assumption people would have this money from the government so they add that on the sale price.

Money to the low income earners is just going to go straight on debt and food as these people are already struggling to pay the bills. it is the middle and high income people that already have their financial management in control and can afford to spend this money in the country.

I hate to be a downer but hasn't history proven to get the world out of a a deep recesion or "depression" it took a war to do it?

Re: KRudd's $950 payout

war was the reaction to the recession, not the action to end it.

I beg to differ....If you build a big lego house and use all the peices what else do you have to do but knock it down and start again?...Supply and Demand....

I am classed as single with no dependants. It's about time I got some of my tax dollars returned to me instead of subsidising other people's kids.

And if you think "tax cuts" are the answer, then someone has the wrong question.

House prices have fallen and the housing industry has been in a slump for a few years now; no this won't solve it - that needs the state government to reduce land tax and stamp duty. Better still abolish state government.

I'll be spending mine on a new snake
