Rear sprocket

Fri Jan 23, 2009 9:02 pm

I got a 2nd rear sprocket with the s****i when i bought it and it's 1 tooth less than what is on it 45->44.Was just wondering if this would make much of a difference or would I be better of going down 2 or 3???It's for the creek.Oh and I think the front is 14....

Oh the bike is a RGV250

reducing the rear gearing will increase top speed and reduce acceleration from what i can remember.
dont know whats best for that track obviously as ive never been on it. but consider the long straight you may want some top speed, then again all those twisties may require a quick escape out of the corners...guess its a fine balance...

bring all of them and chage em on the day :kuda:

I was just wondering if 1 would make a difference?I'd have to buy another to go 2 down was just wondering if it's worth it as these two tracks OP and EC will be the only two I'll be going too.Plus EC is a lot quicker track and I was falling way short at OP....

when i was after a rear spocket for mine, all that i could find was one with 1 less tooth. The guy told me i wouldnt notice too much of a difference with the acceleration, but i will notice it with the top speed.
so in short...maybe a slight change.

Cool I might have a look around and try get one 2 down aswell.....

In the three laps I've done at EC, my RGV topped out well before the end of the straight on stock gearing. T1 was entered pretty much flat-out in sixth

just for the record disco, if you change your gearing, i automatically win any battle we may have :D

What sort of revs / speed were you pulling at Oran Park?

250s will often run out of sheer top speed at tracks!
But you will learn, to hold them flat out in sixth ( NO backing off,NO braking) and "just" crank it over
eg Turn 1 EC !
Amazing how many "faster" , bigger bikes you will round up ....very quickly
Gearing change...1 tooth on/off the rear would be more to get the box right for the corners !!

You can get small digital tach ( numerical display ) they use in kart racing, but may be hard to read..at a glance!!
Best to get your original tach working !
An essential tool for the two strokes, as they drop a lot of horsepower as soon as you go even 500rpm over optimum.
You probably felt this already ....
Gearing...see if you can get +1 countershaft...IF the bike was way short at Oran Park.
The bike may not pull it willingly if too tall !

Picked up a fewer tooth front sprocket for my 250R, seems relatively simple to change over and have a bit of mechanical knowledge and quite a few tools, but bugger me if i can get the main nut holding the sprocket on undone?!? tight as all sh!te

any suggestions?
have another service coming up in 1000ks so may just leave it for them then....

jeez that will make it really geared short!!!!

ask richo on here how much fun he had removing his front sprocket...

see if anyone who's done it before will help you... im enlisting the services of someone to help me (ie i'll stand around while they do it) change my chain and sprockets ;)
