Ease up Mick !! None of the roads in that trip had *any* roadworks at all....thats over 1000km of roads travelled over the course of the 3 days....
Some of the lesser-used outback roads can be a bit howyagoin', but by and large ( and its a large state - 6 times the size of Mehico), the roads are fine.
