You should get instructions with the kit & it is not hard to do, but you will have to remove the tank & carbs etc.
please keep in mind that you will have to check it regularly & adjust accordingly...... you cant affort to let it go too long

Mitch - how did you go with this ? I have replaced auto-tensioners with APE versions, its a really straightforward job mate, as Rob has said all the instructions come with the new tensioner.

It's fucked. Big props to Tinman for towing it home for me.

it = the cct or engine? *hopes for the former*

First one, then probably the other. Motor currently refuses to start, just cranks and cranks. Can bump-start it, it'll idle for a few seconds then die.

This makes me wonder if your past cct's were installed correctly or not, incorrectly they often are installed and the lockscrew nipped closed & effectively stopping further tensioning of the chain as it loosens. If your sure you need to replace it, It's a peice of cake to do.
1) take tank off, air filter and (and carbs if required for access to the cct)
2) Nip the current screw closed, then nip the locknut closed. That way if you decide to re-use the thing it's all in one peice (and you can be sure nothing flung into the engine).
3) Then undo the retaining bolts top & bottom.
4) install the manual one with the gizmo fully retracted
5) extend the arm until specified tension is reached.
As someone who's never worked on a zx6, the question remains as to how much access do you have behind the engine to tweak the thing tighter as needed? after the first tweak you shouldnt really have to do too much too often as long as your good with your servicing intervals.
