after reading the forward posts and getting the almighty 12r out to see how far you need to lean it to do the damage in your post you would have to put it down ,,,,the pic of gos's avatar is not far off the extreme limit

Yep and THAT my friends is why you have your knee down ;)
I dont remember actually pushing up on it, but nothing else, other than divine intervention, could explain the situation.
Dont forget that the suspension would have been compressed to the max as well. ;)
There were others there that seen it happen but they couldnt tell me what happened or why it didnt go down either.
In my previous experience once the wing hits the front unloads and the bike goes down, in this case the wing is barely marked but (as you can see) the case copped it. Also the recent rear sets some us fitted has been ground a bit as they dont fold but not enough for it to have stood the bike back up.
Thats why I can only think it was my knee that saved it.

My biggest concern there is the lack of off-the-seat-ness? I'm no star rider by any means, but with the bike over that far I'd want to near have my chin on the ground

 Shifty mate, I am so old-school its an embarrasment............no knees on the deck for this spring chicken....well, not on the road bike anyway ... ;)

I go slower when trying to get a knee down !

remember when you riding around a corner like that your suspension is fully loaded and "squatting" so makes max lean angle less. 8)

Drawing a line through the centre of the bike and ignoring the angle of your head, I almost put you leaning the wrong way by a degree or so! That being the case, quite impressive lean angles.

I don't use all of the tyre on the 12, but close to it... unfortunately that's more a function of laziness than Rossi-ness.

are you still using a 200 or a 190 ? Most guys who run the 200 never get to the edge ( I never did) - but a 190 will give you quicker steering and no chicken-strips !

Geez mate you REALLY dont know me do you  I say again it did NOT go down. IF you really want I can post pictures of the side of the bike and you will see there are no other marks for a start. There would also be no point to me saying it didnt if it did, I've never been ashamed to post my other stacks up.
And for your edification you want to talk extreme lean on a 12 ? This was my previous experience, me in black, a bloke named Richard Goddard at the back on his wing that STILL owes me for a pillion cover I sent him BARSTARD
When this pic was posted on Easyriders 12 website the yanks said the pic was photoshopped, suprised you havent suggested that as well

What became of this bike ?? Hmmmmm

The only thing stopping you leaning a 12 is that it will eventually run out of tyre but before that (as Richard found out) the wing hits.

Obviously if you run stickier/rounder rubber your limit will be hard bits, its not really skill to get it over that fair but, just bravery or stupidity depending on your outlook.
With my grind I can only assume (in hindsight) that the rear had already let go but my knee saved it as the wing only had a small grind on it, but the lower fairing is pretty well marked and I can only assume that my knee saved it. I am smaller than either Hoffy or Goz by a LONG way so I have to hang off it an awful lot more to get the sucker to turn, normally the bike is also up a lot straighter as a consequence. Also despite a lot of adivce on here to the contrary the forks are lifted throught the triples. The bike did a few trackdays (I am 700k away from the nearest track) and it was always leaned as far as it could without the rear letting go, hitting solid bits. ;) The day the case grind happened it wasnt and my knee wasnt on the ground until the rear let go. IT was also on James old bike and I wouldnt hazard a guess as to whether the oil in either end has ever been touched.

cheers Froggy, I was hoping you would bung that photo up here sometime - I remember it well !! and also the clowns on the US forums who also called it as a fake.....its a great shot of a 12 *on the wing* as it were..... :D

I remember Ponti telling me, on our first HCC trip to the Supers a few years ago, about a bloke in Qld who had almost wore a hole in the RH side of the lower fairing, he used to be a member here, Stuey ? a mate of Fab's I think ? I thought at the time that *no way can you wear the fairing down that far*.....well after Ponti's suspension school (on the fly) - yes he was right ! ;)

Shiny - I can vouch for Froggies efforts with the 12, he is a mad bastard without a doubt ;) , and I can see him lifting a barge off the deck at speed with his knee, no worries ....it would all have been over in the blink of an eye (well, 2 eyes blinking actually..... )

That shot from my avatar was the last time at the Creek I used stock footpegs on the MFP12. During that day, the footpeg, end of the sidestand, and the gear-lever tip  all touched the deck at some point, so it was time for a set of rear-sets. Nothing has touched the deck since....touch wood. Maybe with some slicks fitted......   it might be a different story....I won't be taking the MFP12 back out for a track-day until the suspension has been sorted out with a good rear unit and fork internals. Maybe 2009 Christmas track day ??

Onya Frogstar, I bet the slider copped a caning. Sliders are bad & must be punished.

Perfect example of "Bank n Crank it", i'd say.
