cam chain tentioner on my zxr250C

Postby fadz90 » Tue Nov 04, 2008 5:02 pm

hey all,
i took my kwaka zxr250c to the mechanics and i got all my problems sorted out, my main problem with the bike that we wanted sorted out is the cam chain tentioner adjusted so the bike dosen't rattle.
now the mechanic told me that the cam chain tentioner is to worn and out and he must replace it. The bike sounds like a friggin lawn mower, makes me sick to even listen to it and feels like the motor is about to blow!
NOW not only i have to get the parts from JAPAN but theres a big big big waiting period to get it over to australia.

i've been told not to go to the wreckers because the part would only come out of a worn engine.
Is there another method i can do to approach this situation.

cheers

You should be able to get an aftermarket one from here... http://www.rbdrace.com.au/index.cfm?/de ... t/1134/38/
It is not an automatic tensioner so will require maintence regularly with the twist of a spanner.
You would need to check sizes but they might have one to fit, we use these ones in the race bikes as they are ten times better then OEM ;)
Your mechanic cant be too good if he cant find a basic better solution for you

Don't get me wrong he's a good mechanic, he's been looking after me, but with the site you gave me rob, i think both the mechanic and myself want to use the standard system, its just for less hassels. although ill look into the site you gave me see what i can do and what other choice's i have.
cheers.

No worries, have you tried R&B imports or dread I say sumoto in Vic.... both have been involved in imports & both stock some parts.
+ wreckers are not that bad .... you might find one better than yours that will do the trick in the short term so your mechanic should not be dismissive re wreckers... it might just get you on the road quicker while you wait for the good bits ;)

well, we are on the approach that we want to get it right the first time, we have thought about alot of solutions to this situation, i've tried this shop and he said hes gona get a enqiry for me from japan and see how that goes and hopefully all goes well, if not ill have to look around some more. but thanks rob i will try a few of the contacts you mentioned and hopefully all goes well, because the way the bike is atm, im getting really close to ditch the porject and sell it. but end of the day i really want to ride it so yeah, if it means waiting a few weeks then so be it.
Grr...
