So is ya home yet Marty??

Does no posting mean that the solid food didn't go down well, or that you have both hands full of food at home and you cant post??

I got sent home yesterday arvo, but things are not going so well. I am in pain again and have had to stop eating. I saw the surgeon today, who says it's going to take some time as it was some pretty surious surgery he had to perform and he is not surprised by my bodies reaction to it.

Things are not going so well. I have had to stop eating again. I can retain water, but whenever I try to eat, it is followed by 12 hours of pain while I try to digest it! So I am giving the system a water cleanse for 24 hours and I will try to eat again tomorrow. If eating is followed by pain, then it's back to hospital...again! :x

I stayed on water only for 24 hours then last night tried a little tub of Yoghurt (meant to be really easy to digest). An hour later the pain returned, so I have gone back to clear fluids again for another 24 hours to see how things go. I am still taking fluids fine, so am not worried about dehydration. If I stop being able to keep the liquids up, I'll check back into horspiddle, as it only takes afew hours from then to go downhill.
This is becoming frustrating. I go forwards a step and then back two!!!!! :x

I thought I'd be smart and drink some electrolytes yesterday (staminade/gatorade) but this just went straight through me. So I'll stick to water today and try some Consume for dinner tonight. I am starving hungry with the only thing stopping me from chowing down on the food in the fridge and cupboards, being the known pain consequences!!! :x But it's bloody hard. Yesterday, they had bloody cooking shows on every channel at one stage.....you don't reckon that's a form of torture!!!! Making all that scrummy food, none of which I can eat!! I turned the telly off at that point!!!!

There must be nothing left of you Marty. You can't survive indefinitely on clear fluids. Are they saying that it is just a matter of time until you can eat or are they waiting for you to starve to death?? Sustagen isn't a clear fluid but it is in fluid form- could you keep that down without pain?
I know you are sick of hospital but at least they can get not only fluids but some form of nutrients into you with an IV line.
Wishing you well. :)

Yeah, I start with a 7 now!!!! And if it keeps going it'll be a 6 pretty soon!!!!

I am taking in enough sustanance to not force me back to the hospital at this point, but if it continues for much longer I will have no choice. Problem is, the next step is not IV fluids, it's cut a hole in my neck, tap into the artery which goes to the heart and feed me this thickshake like looking stuff through a tube into my blood stream! I really don't want to go down that route and while ever I am managing enough to keep me going I'll stay home. If it deteriorates from here however, then sure, I'll grab a cab to the hospital again. I'm not being silly with this, if I was struggling, I would put my hand up and go back to hospital, but whilever I can retain water and some clear broth, I'll stay home. 8)

I'm not counting chickens yet, but today I feel a bit better. I managed some clear broth and a cuppa for breakfast, then a tub of Yoghurt for lunch! I've just now scoffed a bowl of chicken noodle soup, so I will now in about an hour or two if things are going to be OK! If it's not cleared, then the pain will indicate this and it will be back to clear broth for another 24 hours! Monotonous isn't it!! At least today has been pretty much pain free apart from the odd cramp. Happy days! 8)

I just gave up and paged my surgeon. I still can't manage anything other than water. Yoghurt, mash, noodles all cause severe abdominal pain an hour and a half after eating. Water intake is fine, it;s just anything thicker than that which is causing an issue. This truly sucks! :x

I reverted back to a clear fluids diet for 24 hours and things seemed OK, so this morning I scrambled two eggs for breakfast. It seems to have gone through OK. Not completely pain free, but, bearable!!! Definately and improvement. So, I thought I'd push my luck and I just had some pureed mango and apple with some custard!! Yeah...I know, I feel like a baby too!!!! But, at least it's food!!!! I'll know in a couple of hours how that went!
