just a fair question, buying a bike that was a demo, would it be safe to say its been thrashed, because it hasn't ran in yet and poeple and have taking it for the ride of its life.
Considering you would probably get rid of the bike before it has done some serious KMS it should not matter, the amount of $$$ value lost upon purchase is ridiculous so you would be better getting a demo & pocketing the difference :P

mate unless you can ride like rossi or stoner there is very little chance of giving the bike that much of a hard time.

The old theory is based around the old style run in process where you need to bed the engine in. these days that is less of a priority as everything is of high grade machined measurements.

No one other than the Manufacture can tell if it was a demo so just save yourself some cash if you can.

My next bike will have 3 cylinders.

Triumph ?? I have heard rumour that the triples have problems with the middle cylinder over heating! Not sure how true that is tho!

What will you get ?

1. the dollar has been quite strong for the last couple of years, so maybe they are cheaper to buy now than back say, 4 or 5 years ago.

My neighbour told me that Yamaha are about to push their bike prices up 5-8% or so in the next 2 weeks or so due to them buying their dollar contracts for the year at the end of our year. i.e. a FJR going up a bit over 1k or so if i recall his estimates correctly.
Note: This may or may not be true as he heard it off some sales droids, but may well be something to consider if you are in the market to buy new or second hand (and something to research if your really serious about buying).
