$16,000.00 ride away.
If the dealer wont go for $16,000 as original then you walk away. They'll ring you. Then you are in the box seat.
Go to another dealer, they will match it, but you have to be ready to buy.

I've got a current offer of $16.6k ride away - though the dealer put $16k on the table but took it back when I wasn't interested in putting down a deposit then and there....

Couple of factors to consider:

1. the dollar has been quite strong for the last couple of years, so maybe they are cheaper to buy now than back say, 4 or 5 years ago.

2. there are more bikes on the road nowadays, and the turnover for manufacturers is growing dramatically, therefore more volume equals greater discounts.

3. anyone that pays rec retail for a bike these days is either a newbie or cant negotiate, or just has too much money and says, yeah fark it just want one.

4. most litrebikes can be had for the same price anyhows, and the bikes aren't getting any shitter..therefore value for money is increasing with all brands with you getting more technology for your dollar..except maybe MV's.

peace out young padawan, there is nuttin wrong with the bug!

Hoffy: Started at $17.7k, then threw out $16k ride away claiming he was 'just seeing if there was a price that would convince me to put a deposit down today.' Said he could do $16.6k after that.

ZX9R01: They called me today already. :D Told the I was still thinking about it and I'd call them back.

if demand is high enough and supply is short enough then you wont be able to budge a dealer...

example is my little bike.... with a waiting list that was 3 months long only a month ago, there wasnt much chance of negotiating... not in NSw anyways... why would they sell u a bike below what they want when they got 6 or 7 other people waiting for a bike...

i dont plan on paying RRP for my next set of wheels tho ;)

The 250 market is a little different, with Kawasaki having a unique offering in this segment, so unfortunately you are over a barrel...litre bikes are much more open to negotiation though due to all factory's having a 1000 bike of similar performance, competing against each other.

I am just saying that when they ring you, you have to be prepared to buy. What is stopping you. Dont talk price till you are sure you want it. Pure and simple.

He threw $16,000 at you, you should have said YES. You didn't so are you serious or do you think there is a better bike out there, thats OK if you do but DONT talk price until you are prepared to sign. Cant stress enough, if you are unsure DONT talk price. It just compromises your bargaining power.

Only talk price if you want to buy it and are ready to sign. Not to be harsh but they get tyre kickers all day long.

This is all true except if u live in Tassie, where at either end of the state there is 1 of the major bike shops, except there is only 1 Ducati shop, 0 MV dealers and its hard to get a v-twin KTM.

So if u want a machine of a certain brand, u better like there price or get another brand! Worst of all the Kawasaki and Suzuki dealer which is 1, is run by a bunch of dicks and even though i am one eyed Kawa lover, i avoid that shop AT ALL COSTS, except the ride the demo's and instead go see the friendly crowd at the triumph/aprillia shop who get me the same parts for cheaper!

I was asking about hte bug and trying to get some prices as i was one and best deal was $19,990 + ORC. i just gave the guy a blank look!

The reason they can charge so much is because of that HUGE stretch of water around Tasmania. We are that far away that they need to charge an extra $4,000 to cover a boat to come here! THATS HOW FAR AWAY WE ARE!

Nah, not really - they only have a blue one and I prefer it in yellow.

My next bike will have 3 cylinders.

hey all,
just a fair question, buying a bike that was a demo, would it be safe to say its been thrashed, because it hasn't ran in yet and poeple and have taking it for the ride of its life.

wouldn't it be just easier to pay an extra grand to get something that is fresh then probably thrashed. i know what ill be doing..

so yeah whats better demo or brand new, and i know the question is abit obvious but i want to know the good perks of buying a demo.

cheers.
