as you can see I only sustained minor road rash on the fairings and they were definitly worth the investment

also saved alot of damage to the new pipe and fairing on my new 10r when it fell off the stand a couple of weeks ago.

why dont you show them how good the other set of oggies worked ??

I think the oggies were the only thing not broken... including the Wes Cooley Rep.. :-)

and a Mazda..

i had a low side and i broke both mirrors,my gear lever, the swingarm pickup, scuffed the stator cover and minor fairing damage.....only got the crash's fitted the week before it happened and damn glad i did!!!!i would hate to see what happened if i didn't have them fitted would have been a lot more than that i recon.....definatly worth having in my opinionas for the rabbit i recon it was checking for tyre wear so it was trying to do you a favour!!!!

I had a low side drop at about 60kmph and the crash saved the main fairing but i still managed to get about $6200 damage to pretty much every other part of the bike, it seems that instead of just wrecking one part, i ended up with minor damage to pretty much every part of the left side of the bike.
But i guess the oggys saved the fairing like it was supposed, although it did damage the engine cover (stator?), smashed the ducktail, peg, etc....

well i had no oggies on the zx9, and i went down and only got few scratches at an off at 40kms. Basically scratched the right fairing, mirrors scratched, broke indicators, bit of ducktail scratch and thats it.
Real damage came 2 weeks later when it had no fairings and i hit a roo, then it only had a smashed stator and thats it!

Oh those zx9's are built like battleships!

Just a little update to this thread. As a certain somebody has managed to total my R6.

I had her fitted with Vortex Delrin frame sliders, straight mount, 2 piece. First piece is the engine bolt and the puck housing. Second part is the actual slider puck itself mounted to the housing with a nice fat bolt.

Bike went down at 60-80km/h. Landed on the left hand side and slid down the road.....into a cement wall. Now, I hate bracket mount frame sliders with a passion, so I cut holes in the fairings and did it properly. I also believe they are called 'frame sliders' for a reason, that being that they protect the frame. In this respect they succeeded. Frame hasn't got a scratch on it, slider isn't bent, it ground down almost to the bolt but is easily removable and can just replace the puck. Bolt is still great.

That aside, the whole front of the bike is boned, the rear sub-frame is bent, the duck tail is pretty farked on the left, rear seat is dead. left peg broke off, gear lever was bent in all sorts of weird ways, plastics are still cracked and dead, the engine cover on the left also has damage. Without the frame sliders, I believe the bike would be pissing oil all over the place, the tank would most likely be damaged the whole left would probably be gone and who knows what would have happened to the frame.

I think they did their job, well enough at least. Obviously the bike would be dead with and without them, however the damage is substantially less - to the engine, tank and frame at least. I would definitely fit them to my bikes, i just don't think people should rely on them as a magic device that saves your bike from damage. I still think they are a great thing to have, especially as a bit of security in the event of a stationary spill - the sort of crap that happens in the garage, or when your foot slips at the servo and etc. I also still believe the bracket mount ones are crud and if given the choice between brackets or no sliders, i would leave them off.

Yes, they certainly do !!!!! I have the factory "mushrooms" as Kawasaki likes to call them ( probably had a call from a Cornish pasty maker asking them to not use the "O" word ) and they probably saved the bike going up in flames after my recent drop.

Nice work frog!

What is it with you and the road surface that always has you meeting like that  good to know you always survive them somehow 8)

I personally think crash knobs (oggies whatever) on bikes is subjective, I use to think that I didnt need them on the 12R because if I stacked that thing it wouldnt be pretty at the speeds that I would lose it at. That was until I didnt get the stand down soon enough and also when it came off the rear stand in the garage andit hit the ground on both occassions resulting in almost 2k cosmetic damage.

Each bike is different though, some mount easily and offer better protection than others, like the 12R as you know Frog there are virtually no really good options for slide/crash knobs without possible compromise of engine block and frame!

My opinion on them has changed, I would now fit them for very low speed drops or the most unfortunate drop of all is at a standstill 8)

I have a set that actually bolt on to the frame. Not sure if the hole in the frame was already there or not, I didnt fit these.

I used to think that knobs were a must have item.. but i giuess it all depends on what type of crash you have.

I had a set of Oggies on an 05 ZX10R, and I low sided it on some rough tarmac at about 80km/h, while the knob saved the plastics in close proximity around it, the downside was that the mounting bracket that braced the knob transfered the impact energy and cracked my frame mounts off..
I guess, on a track/smooth road, it may have slid better, saving my frame (and bike)..

So my new 10 is without crash knobs, although I may fit the ones that have a single bolt mounting point that would sacrificially bend instead of ruining my bike to save themselves.
