GPX 750 Low fuel warning light, well it doesn't work!!

Hey guys, i figured i'd ask here as it's a better ratio of gpx 750's than i've seen anywhere else.
Does anyone who has/had one ever had problems with the low fuel light never coming on?
I can verify that the light itself does indeed work as sometimes when i turn the ignition
on i see the fuel & oil lights illuminate, however i've never actually seen the low fuel light
come on when it should. This has already bitten me in the arse once before and i was
hoping to hear if anyone else has had the same probs. and if so, how'dyafixit?

And before you ask, yes my fuel guage works and i have verified the little plug is snugly
connected to the woring loom from the tank.

1st High Tech Warning Sign.. surge, surge, pop, fart.. Hit reserve..
2nd High Tech Warning Sign.. surge, surge, pop, fart, STOP.. You Need Fuel..
None of these woosey, girly warning lights.. Just plain old common sense and about alot of knowing when you should stop for fuel.. or you get some exercise..

I wonder when they'll put a clear stip in a fuel tank, like on an oil bottle so you can see how empty the tank is.. But you old guys will be too old to be able to see it the level

I'm also scratching my head about how come it's eating a heap more fuel than it should, yet whenever i look at the plugs they are the light caramel colour they ought to be , im sure a tune in a month or two will fix that, but in the meantime 220km/nervousness will be my guide.

you do have a reserve...4 litres ..started by pushing in the valve
under the tank....

and 220 kms??? definitely a tuneup for you!
our last KSRC outing to Arthurs Seat..about 220km
used 12 litres in mine

Last time i ran it dry i got 260km out of it, but i was more than happy to be plain paranoid about not getting left stranded.

So this reserve, how does it work? you press the button and it equalises fuel into the main tank? or you press it down and it goes to reserve and you have to fiddle with it to bring it back up?

I knew there was a button there thanks to my service manual & haynes manual. But all impressions i had were that it was to do with draining your tank. Phooey to never getting a owners manual with the bike!!!!!

I tell you fib...sorta
fuel tap is used to empty completely the tank (if a hose is connected)
or prime carbs (if bike has been standing for a while)
the Gpx has a reserve of sorts..the fuel light comes on when there
are 4 litres left and at that point you hit the fuel tap
sorta funny system
there is no actual bit that you turn from nomal to reserve
like a lotta bikes

when i get a chance I will scan owners manual re this and post it to you

Thanks for that, it sort of makes sense from what you wrote, take your time to let me know, healing comes 1st .

However my only major issue that i'll have to sort out myself is the lack of the low-fuel light *shrug*. I'm sure it will be something stupidly obvious.

If you have a multimeter, check that you are getting something out of the sensor when it's dry, if you are, it's the light assembly or it's earth. If nothing, check that power is getting to the sensor, if it is, it's the sensor. If there's no power to the sensor, then you've got wiring issues between the sensor and the battery.

Keep in mind i don't know what's in the system, and i'm just giving you some simple suggestions. For anything more detailed, i'd need a wiring diagram.

Yeah i know i've got to fiddle with a multimeter, i've just been procrastinating it as long as humanly possible .

Might get the multimeter out in the next day or so and see if i get anything with my cluestick.

the low fuel sensor is seperate from the fuel float in the tank, so just coz one work does'nt mean the other cannot as i found out.
As Smitty said i can scan the manual for you, but kwaka really did do a screwy job on our fuel sensor system.
I need a new float but alas there not made anymore, to get it repaired 2 week wait.

if it counts my low fuel light usually comes on with 5 litres left around the 200km mark.

well thats a good thing! & means that chances are its an electrical or physical fault with the low fuel sensor as opposed to a glitch somewhere else inside the circuitry. a scan of that particular bit of info would be fantastic, as i said, the workshop manual & the haynes were, well, rather sparse on info on this particular subject.
