Walker to race in World Superbike for Paul Bird Motorsport

It has been announced that British rider Chris Walker has been signed for the Vent Axia VK team for the rest of the 2008 FIM Hannspree World Superbike Championship.
The 36 year-old from Nottinghamshire will join existing rider Gregorio Lavilla in the team for the remaining five rounds commencing at Brands Hatch over the weekend of August 1/2/3rd.
Walker, four times a runner-up in the British Superbike Championship, has been racing in the World Supersport Championship this season but hasn't enjoyed the best of luck on his Kawasaki so the rider who has 138 WSB races and twelve podiums, including one win, under his belt is relishing the opportunity of racing a superbike again.
After a successful test at Oulton Park yesterday aboard the team's recently built 1000cc Honda Fireblade, both Walker and team owner Paul Bird were delighted to shake on the deal which will see 'The Stalker' as the only permanent British rider in the series.
"When I set off on the bike, it very nearly pulled my wig off and it reminded me of just what I've been missing in Superbikes!" said Walker. "It's a massive opportunity for me and one which I don't intend to waste. Everyone knows this team has pedigree and they build awesome bikes so I know it will be competitive. I nearly signed for Birdy a few years ago and didn't so now I'm really looking forward to working with the team and also Greg whom I have a lot of respect for. I love Brands and Donington and my aim is to give the crowds something to cheer about so make sure you come along and support me!"

I think it's a smart choice on his behalf. The Vent Axi team were a great outfit in BSB last year and there's no reason to think they won't do equally well in WSBK in the coming years once they adapt to the Honda. So who's going to run around in 25th place on the Kwaka now?

Chris Walker got away !
Kawasaki Gil Motor Sport informs you that the British rider Chris Walker suddenly decided to leave the Team.
Yesterday, Wednesday 23rd of July, we discovered on a British website our rider making tests on a HONDA Superbike motorbike
Chris Walker didn’t have the courage to confess his decision to his Team Manager during the BRNO race one week ago. However, we know that his decision was already taken because he had his red leather suit (with his colours) to enter the Superbike Championship as soon as BRANDS HATCH in Superbike, despite his contractual obligations.
All the Kawasaki Gil Motor Sport Team is badly surprised by this decision and now we already entered into negotiations with another rider to replace Chris Walker as soon as the race in BRANDS HATCH the next week-end.

McConnell to ride for Kawasaki Gil Motor Sport at Brands Hatch
Update: July 30, 2008, 18.30 PM ET Comment Email Print
Billy McConnell, a full-time rider for the British based MSS Discovery Kawasaki BSB team, will ride in place of the outgoing Chris Walker at the forthcoming Brands Hatch World Supersport Race.
The Australian rider, who originally hails from Adelaide, has been a fixture in British racing since 2005, when he won the closely contested one make Virgin Mobile Cup series.
McConnell, still only 21-years-old, was fourth in the British Supersport Championship last year, and is therefore no stranger to 600c machinery. He will line-up alongside regular rider Katsuaki Fujiwara in the Gil Motor Sport team at Brands Hatch.
