So Froggie

You're the relationship expert now are you

really

I'm pretty sure you don't have a partner, so do you have a mental problem too like apparently I have?

Daisy I don't think it's a tall order, smokers are disgusting, I'm a size 10-12, I take the effort to look after myself so why is that a bad thing in a partner?
Last person I saw albeit briefly seriously thought every woman in the world was in love with him, accused me of stalking him, and told me he only dates fat and ugly girls like me until a decent one comes along as we're easy to get rid off. He's also the one that hit on my best mate, so there's the loopy comment.
I've had 4 partners cheat on me, last one broke my heart.

I don't think I need professional help because I don't want to go through that again. I'm not looking for Mr Perfect, I just want a guy who I like being with and likes being with me. I know there are good guys out there, why settle being treated badly and be with someone you don't want to be because *society* deems you shouldn't be alone.

Reading Marty's thread gives me hope that it is still possible for anyone of any age to find another person to happily share their life with.

Regardless of what anyone says, I think it is most people's innermost desire (WANT not NEED) to grow old with their lover, best friend and soul mate beside them. I do believe that the older and more hurt you are the harder it is.

One of Frog's messages really struck a sad chord with me. Is this really what it comes down to after 'thirty-something'?

'SOOOOO we are left with someone else's discards or those so freaking sad they have not had a relationship until then.'

Guess it aint worth looking after 30 then huh?

It seems that people may well compromise their principles and settle for less than what they are happy with just to be with someone at an older age. I know that i have done it- given all I can to my detriment, hoped things would get better knowing that they wouldn't, woken up miserable more days than I would care to count hoping that my love would be enough to get me the same in return.

Very sad that I have realised I would be much happier and more contented lonely on my own, than lonely with someone else. Resigning youself to the rest of your life alone is a hard thing to accept, but I for one am not willing to be treated like crap just to share my life with another person.

This is getting too deep and meaningful... :?

I was going to type something long winded on the ordinary behaviour of BOTH single men and women but thought stuff it this could go on forever! ;)

My advice:
- stop seeking a soulmate in everyone you meet,
- be yourself,
- be nice to everyone you meet! Even if they aren't single cause chances are it's their opinion of you when you do meet someone they know thats counts most! (Ive told some single mates of mine to get rid of a few rude princess's)

There's my 2 cents!

While we're being all serious like ... What Tanya has listed there really is a tall order. Add to that someone who doesn't need to be told he's had enough to drink, and top it off by specifying an age bracket , you end up in long time lonely territory.
I tried them all - except that sad looking git who used to eye me like some kind of stalker ... 18 months he followed me about - until I realised he was the Mr Right I was looking for the whole time, and the reason he was a sad looking git was he had nothing to smile about. ;)

You Rock Daisy --- Good on ya!!!

Yes girls it's amazing how a good woman can transform a guy if he is at all 'decent' ...

And Jeeze Wendy!!! you mean I shoulda given up 7 years ago??? (I think not little puppy!!)

Hey truth is when we get to the thirty mark and find ourselves single there is naturally gonna be some baggage involved .. thats just a simple fact of life no matter what your gender or situation!!

I mean let's face it ; most women will be single mums , divorcees or just plain been through the mill far too many times{unlessthey are just plain butt ugly body / soul] (Don't include anyone here as far as I know)
Most (decent) blokes will be paying child maintenance ,divorcees or again been screwed over by the WRONG girls to many times etc etc.

Fact is we all need to look ahead to what you could have when you meet somebody new not punish them for something somebody else has done to you.

After all you don't get to 'edit' a relationship. It's a one shot deal.

Oh yeah and if your looking for a chiselled 93kg TDH fella the kinda stong but gentle type without the over inflated ego to boot ( ) I believe BM posted a pic on another vaguely similar thread some time ago..... :P

Like we said- all the good ones are gone! ;) (Good taste in red too!)

Seriously though, the replies of some of the people in this thread have proved that there are wonderful people of both sexes around.

I have put in WAY more than the other person in every relationship I have been in so far. I have been taken for granted and ripped of in every way you can imagine.

Basically have faith in who you are and what you deserve Colette. I am not sure how true the old cliche of 'stop looking and you will find it' is.I am living proof though that giving up the search doesn't necessarily mean that good things will come your way. Comfortable in my own skin is as good as it gets for this little black duck. Yes, I am damaged goods to the point that I am not prepared to let another person walk on me, control me, manipulate me, belittle me or suck me dry of emotions again.

Ease up girl, I was agreeing with you - not criticising. I had the tall order- in fact I was so sad as to write it down and pin it to a noticeboard.
There was a time when I had 3 or four (ish) guys that I wanted to roll into one because you can't find all the qualities I wanted in one person. In the end I ditched all of them for one who could have been 30 years younger with all his hair ... but he has THE MOST important quality. He worships the ground I walk on - and in return, I let him.

Hey ttc it is better to be alone than be with the wrong person even if they are a great person they can be wrong for you, society be dammed. You can even be a crazy cat lady if you like (I am going for yammering hillbilly, personally) just take care of yourself and be who you are, the rest is out of your hands and up to god/Buddha/fate/the giant potato people (if that is what you believe in), anyhow good luck!

Nope I am not single (as you know Cheeky ;) )
I have been with the same wonderful lady for a while now and when we have a problem we work it out, not just run (taking the problem with you).
No one should have to accept anything less than what they see as ideal, BUT if you look hard enough you will find fault with EVERYONE.
NO ONE suggested ANY ONE should have to put up with alcoholics or friend rooters but the fact that this is what was bought up shows issues that still exist. Whilst they do then you will not find satisfaction with anyone, its called trust and while it has been broken it doesnt mean the NEXT person HAS to do it. Thats your issue, not theirs.
I doubt there is anyone on here over the age of 30- hasnt been betrayed and had their trust broken and spat back at them some time in their life. And yep first time, shame on you, 2nd time shame on me. BUT to let that rule the REST of your life..... well
We are all adults, we grow, we learn and whilst we dont want to get burned again it doesnt mean we shun ALL fire for the rest of our lives.
Imagine you are a potential partner and all the chick wants to talk about is every little bit of shit that has happened in her life, DAMN I would be running too.... Once the relationship develops a simple "Play up on me and I will cut your balls off" should get the message across. 8)

As to drinking, yeah like I have never seen a women that doesnt know when to stop either. Thats what friends do, help each other. ;)
I know this lovely married couple and I asked them one day how thye got it to last SO long, their answer was sickly sweet but to see them when they said it they OBVIOUSLY meant it. The answer was "Back in the beginning we agreed only one of us would fall out of love at a time".

Another bit of advice "Women go out with men in the hope they will change, Men in the hope the woman wont. Both are doomed to failure".
Yeah well I reckon that is a LOT of shit, we live and learn, if the guy cares enough (and this is the crux, he MUST care) he will change his disgusting little "seat up" habits. For the record my lady gets breakfast made and a cup of good coffee, a foot rub each night and a massage if she wants it. BUT I get to go out with my mates every now and then and a trip away to the GP (or SBK) for 4-5 weeks every year. Does she trust me, HELL YEAH. BUt I am not prepared to lose what I have either. Have I burned before OH FUCK YEAH, and it took me a while to get over it too. But I DID get over it.

How old are you ladies anyway? If you are not yet 40 (and I know your not Tan) then you will live to be at least 80. You have heard the old saying, if only I knew then what I knew now. Well you DO, and you have another 40 freaking years (at least) to do all this again. AND AGAIN if you wish.
Isnt life fucking fantastic ????

So stop your bitching, Harden the fuck up and GET OUT THERE AND FUCKING LIVE.
This aint no dress rehearsal people, this is the main show and you get ONE go at.
Life is too short for excuses ;)
