Well time for a pros and cons, obviously the steel weighs shitloads more, but if I buy Afam steel sprockets they come with a lifetime warranty as long as I own the bike, so then comes the question, is it owrth it? I gotta admit I like the idea of never paying fr sprockets again, just the chain but is that extra weight worth it?

FFS, Mick - if its the weight you're worried about, join a gym and lose a kilo or two !!!!!!

Sprocket may last a lifetime but the chain won't... Never really been one to put a new chain on old cogs myself unless it's a 'get me home jobbie'
My 16/39 Afam front/Afam ally rear combo with a 525 RK XW ring chain has done 18,000 odd km now. Total stretch = 1.5 notches on the swingarm only (rough measure).
There is still no significant wear on either the front or rear cogs and chain still has plenty of life in it.. Bout another 5000km at least.
IMO
Mind you , She hasn't done any track work yet!!! DAMMIT!!!!

Afam sprockets are good kit, I had a set on my Firestorm for over a year, stonking torquey bike with lots o thrashing and they looked brand new when I sold it on.
Have some Vortex alloy units on the trackie, remains to be seen how long they last!

Don't forget Mick, it's not just weight, it's rotating mass. Rotating mass carries inertia, and becomes hard to turn. All that extra weight will make the bike that much harder to turn. It's not just life vs mass, but life vs mass and handling.

Good point Mike, alloy it is then.

Hey Ron, how about an intelligent comment from time to time ... no amount of time at the gym will raise or lower UNSPRUNG weight

It's a sprocket on a 9 that's not exactly trying to win the motoGP....it's really not going to make a big difference to the handling and a steel one will last longer than an alloy. So Mick, is it performance or tightarsedness you're after?

Hmm I have 100cc more than them guys, maybe I should be out there with Stoner et al... of course the testicles aren't quite as big as theirs... thnaks for the input guys, at the minute I think tightarsed wins, I can always go back to alloy next set if I don't like em I guess

http://www.jtsprockets.comFollow the links for the 9 (or any other bike)
I keep this one in my favourites as the gearing table is quite handy. These cogs aren't too bad for budget steel jobbies .
once again - ebay seller 'dirbiker_blacktown' does pretty good deals.. If he doesn't list for your bike , send him an email and he'll sort you out.
.......sure you need that 9??? If you don't really want ultimate performance I have a perfectly good CBR1000 here !!! LOL
seems a shame for a 9

Very happy with the 9 tyvm, thanks for the link but if I am buying steel sprockets then I might as well go AFAm as theres a lifetime guarantee

Can't for the life of me understand why???

Alloys don't last as long, but they definitely look better

I've got a vortex
