Rear brake 08 zx10r Please explain

Postby Blurr » Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:58 pm

Hi all,

I am trying to bleed and adjust the rear brake on the new girl but instead i have gone from a spongy brake feel to none at all.

I adjusted the screw all the way down to bring the pedal up alittle higher and I am using one of those one way valve hoses from supercheap as I am trying to bleed to back brake bleed nipple but I am not getting any results at all. I have even put a clear 6mm hose over the nipple and tried to suck any air bubbles out.

What am I doing wrong or is there something else I can try?

Also what else would cause the loss of feel that I havent mentioned yet?

cheers for the help

dont follow the instructions on the "one man bleed kit" it dont work real good on bikes.

put the hose over the nipple, put weight on the peddle open up the nipple a bit and as the lever goes down, close the nipple while still keeping pressure on the pedal.
once tight, let the pedal go, and repeat till air bubbles are out. 8)

Mate you must have at least a little end play between the lever and pushrod / yoke. If you adjust it too much you start pushing the master cyl piston back up into it's bore and close off the compensating port. ... End result is you'll never bleed it..

If you do get all the air out and don't leave a bit (a few mm is enough) of free play the rear caliper will 'pump up' and fry your rotor / pads.

I use highly advanced and really technichal equipment to bleed my rears ;
1 x bottle DOT 4 brake fluid
1 x 8mm ring spanner
1 x index finger (aka one way valve)
1 x garden hose (for clean up)
1 x can Jim Beam n cola (motivation)
06 ZX10r , 95 ZX9r
97 GSF1200 project streetfighter
07 FXST
