Re: Shoei TZ-R - Anyone got one?

I've had a TZR for 2 years. I like the fit and it is well made. My only gripe is ventilation. It fogs up in cold weather and especially at the track in cold weather. I guess my head lets off too much steam on cold days! I'm thinking about getting an x-11 or some other brand helmet for the track with more ventilation.

Thanks for all of the replies, everyone! Some good reading.

We went out again on the weekend, just to make sure of what we're looking for. I tried the XR-1000 on and found it to be almost identical in fit to the TZ-R.

Where I felt the XR was better, though, was in ventilation. The TZ-R doesn't have a rear (exhaust) vent, whereas the XR does. Being that we're in Queensland, I kinda felt that this would give the XR better venting in those hot summer months.

Thoughts???

if you're after good ventilation go the x-11 :P

The TZ-R and XR-1000 are different fits, one will definitely be better than the other, and since you ride all year in thermals pseudohusband I dont think the vents are an issue :D

I haven't found the TZ-R hot. The fogging up issue is solved with a breath guard- you can order them over them on-

The X-eleven is out of our price range. They're around twice the price of the XR or TZ-R.

I've no doubt there's a difference between the XR and TZ-R, but I couldn't pick it.

I wear thermal pants to keep the sweat off my leathers, part-time wife. Suprisingly, they don't make things any hotter.

BM - It's not a fogging issue. I'm more concerened with summer ventilation.

I have an XR1000 and have no complaints, i find the ventilation to be fine as well as the weight and fit. The visor and vents are nice and easy to operate on the fly too, which i like.
But like others have said, different hats for different heads.

I have a XR-1000 - I bought it for a few reasons... A. most importantly it fit good and B. it has great vision... my old helmet (Rjays) really restricted my peripheral vision and made shoulder checks awkard... I always struggled with this and thought I was just unco until I put on my hubbys helmet to ride his race bike down for scrutineering and found that the vision from his was AWESOME!

later that week we went down and I tried on a poo loads of helmets and the XR was awesome AND it came in pink! added bonus really :D

I don't whether it is just me but I have fogging issues in every helemt I own and wear... on bad days my glasses fog as well as the visor... can't see shite then.

I Just bought a XR1000 and was told by the guys at Helmet warehouse in Sydney that the two shells are the same. Its the vent kits and graphics which are different. I had a top of the range ARAI b4 this helmet and the XR1000 is a heap quieter and doesnt give me a crazy ear ache like the ARAI did!!

Cant go wrong with a SHOEI. They hold 90% of the market share.

Check the date on the inside label though. It may be an old one. Remember your lid is only at it's best for probably 3 - 5 years from the manufactured date. Helmet Warehouse are cheap but most of their cheap stuff is old. So long as the price represents the age though it's all good.

I bought an XR1000 a couple of years back and love it. Previously I couldn't get a Shoei to fit properly so I used to get AGV's. I like the Shoei better though, albeit I was comparing a three year old AGV to a brand spankers Shoei so it's probaly not a great comparison, but it's different helmets for different heads.

G-Man, Shoei helmets have a 5 year warranty..they should be good for at least 7 from made date..
