Gday guys,
Well I have got myself into the predicament that I don't ride as much as I used to, and I need some money.
This means that the beloved 1991 ZXR750 must go. But there is a problem - it needs a little work and money to get to a point where im prepared to sell it.
The things it needs is a major tune up, so it like to start without persuasion. Also needs a clean up, and the rear tyre is flat and needs a new valve stem installed by a pro. Not to mention the rego is due on monday.
Obviously these things need money and time, and I don't have the knowledge to even contemplate doing anything myself.
So i was thinking, should i go ahead and fix it up and sell it (probably only for a meager $2000 max) - or break it down and sell it in part form (probably for less money)....
What do you guys reckon i should do?
Any help appreciated!
Matt

Purely from a self centred perspective, do you have any pictures?
Should get more than 2k for it tho if it's running and ordinary.

For the time involved piecing it... I would sell the bike whole, Try ebay as a "buy it now" & see what interest you get & $3000 should be your minium
Based off not seeing the condition of the bike of course

I'd counsel against wrecking it. There's not a lot of demand for standard parts, and chances are you’d end up stuck with higher-value parts (such as the engine) or have to virtually give them away and thus lose the real $ in pulling it apart.
Cheers,
Brian

Sell it whole, that way it goes in one hit.
Selling it in bits tends to leave ya with what poeple dont want.

either way it sounds like it will not fetch you much cash. fyi i purchased a ZX7R with 70k for $2000 it had a slightly noisy cam chain and thats it. clean it and polish it up as much as you can, get it ridable and get rid of any rattles, vibrating bits etc. you never know your luck. if you don't clean it up and get it running well, you can expect well under $2000 for sure. not many people are in the market for someones old pile of shit unless it is a real classic, and the ZXR750 isn't one of those by a long shot...

Considering the images I have in my head from the first post I think the suggestions of $2-3k are bit ambitious.
ZX7Rs have started really dropping now after hovering at the 5k mark for quite a while now seeing them move into the 3-5k range with reg. So I can’t see a previous model ZXR750 requiring work selling for 2-3k.
I saw a fairly clean zxr750 sell about 6 months ago for $2k with rego.
I'm not sure what the market demands are on that era parts but I also vote to sell it whole you're almost certain to sell off a few hundred in small parts and be left stuck with the big dollar items like the motor, frame that only a select few people will be interested in.
