goddam it

Most of you guys know i've got the 03 zx6 which are known for the rock hard suspension and this is a story about that..

When i was on the ride to Whoop whoop the other day with *those* other people, i hit a big bump near Tambo and then my back hurt like crazy. Tue it still hurt so i went to the doc, turns out i've torn some muscles in my back from the impact (got to love that  )
I went to work tue, but not wed or thursday. Two days of sick pay *yippee* .. bloody pain *dammit*
I rang my mechanic, stu rode it down there for me(and yep he did a wheelie), he's putting a new spring in it, and we'll see how it is after that.. I can't ride for at least a week, doc said will prob take a month to stop hurting..
I'll update how the bike is after i get it back and go for a ride.
Tanya

Sorry to hear about your back... I hope it gets better soon. :weedman: (Medicinal)

Does that mean Stu has to cook and clean now?

I've been mucking around with the suspension on my bike lately, experimenting for the track vs. road. Went on the Vic group ride on Sunday and came home feeling like my insides had been re-arranged. Woke up in the night to visit the bathroom and couldn't stand up straight. Woke up again in the morning, could stand up straight but couldn't breathe all the way in. Think I'll go back to soft 'n' squishy settings for long rides next time....!

you cant just get on them and ride them unfortunatly its a bit like owning a gym, lotsa hard work till you can soften up the suspension a little hopefully the spring will make a huge diffrerence in the comfort stakes and see you getting off it after a 300km ride feeling okay for another go.

I had the same problems with mine (04 636) I could feel every pebble in the road and the suspension hammered me till i backed it off..possibly too much but at least i can cover a bit of distance on it now. :D :D

If you want comfort buy a cruiser. Guys n girls these are sportsbikes and are not well known to be the most comfortable things around .

They are such a focussed machine, it actually turns me off buying one...

Not the first time I've read a complaint about the 6's suspension (for normal road use, that is). Keep us updated, I wanna know how it turns out, and how much moolah $$$ it sets you back.

The bike was designed for someone who weighs 90kg. I don't. Do you think i should put up with it or eat macca's 3 times a day?? When i sit on the bike it only sags 10mm at the back, you think that's ok too??
Do you think i should ride a badly set up bike? (and men who own them have made the same comment) have you ever ridden one? and if not what gives you the right to comment??

*bump* after 6 weeks of being messed around, bike is at suspension guy, (only went to see him today, first time i'd even heard of him! after being messed around everywhere else i was a bit over it)

But he spent about 40 mins explaining how everything worked, showing me different valves etc.. We looked up the standard spring rates for this bike and they're way off for my weight.. the standard rate is over 9 something? not sure of what he was talking about.. but apparently I need a 7 :)

He's revalving the shock, and going to try to get a spring before the weekend, if not, even an altered shockie should improve it, and he'll put the spring in when available.

Will have the bike back at the end of the week for a naughty  rendezvous with Stu at Coffs :) I can't wait :D

Hope you get better soon... but have you checked the suspension settings? I reckon before changing the spring the compression damper is set to the softest (easy, just use small screwdriver)...

I found my 2000 J1 is too soft so hardened the compression. but then it is not comfortable so I set them back to almost normal. The rebound setting however is set to max as to reduce the pogo-stick effect. But I think I set it too much...

Yeah, everything is off to the max (was done the 2nd day i had it), especially when i hit a bump at 140 and nearly ended up over the screen :(
