My longest was 10 years with Smorgon Steel but I had 4 different jobs in the place over that time. I left because they were Melbourne based and there weren't too many other opportunities in Sydney and a good opportunity came up where I am now (Southern Steel, didn't purposely stay in the Steel Industry though). I'm in a pretty cool posi now and would probably only bail if a stupid amount of money got chucked my way.

I'm at about 19.5 years working for the same Pathology lab, the first 7 years doing lab work playing with blood, wee and poo. The last 12 years I've been looking after their IT systems, starting off as a grunt and slowly being shafted upwards into the position of senior manager. I know the business really well but absolutely detest working here and I am looking for something else to do....problem is they pay me too well and I've got an expensive hobby  ... also the fact that if I leave, there is no-one else who can replace me, has long since become something I don't care about.

10 years with Qantas as an air chef (straight- not that there is anything wrong with the alternative   ), loved it, but got married and started a family, so it was time to start own business.

Talking about contrast... from the then, second most wanted job in OZ to starting up a video store on the central coast at Tuggerah   well it has taken a while to get used to working 7 days instead of flying to places like Hawaii, Rome, London etc....

But it all worked out at the end, had the video wholesale / retail operation for 10 years as well before we sold it. It's still there today called Video Ezy - Tuggerah

KANEG been operating for close to three years now, and both Joy and myself loving it and want to grow it and enjoy it for long time to come.

Feel very blessed to have always done what I enjoyed :D :D

I'd say you are one of the lucky ones!.... in my clearly short experience (...38years! new_shocked.gif !)... one thing i've found is that every business has a prick - whether it be a manager or colleague. The know it all, the incompetent, the pain in the arse, the 'i'll take credit for that' and the i didnt do it...

Besides the perks are good, travel can be a pain in the ass. 38hrs travel to Germany for 2 days then 38hrs back  China for 2 days
