Z750 (03-06) Final Drive Ratio - Taller Gearing

Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:00 pm

I live in the NT and a lot of my riding is between 100-130kph with the 130kph speed limit in the NT (just as well given the windsock effect above that speed on the Z750). I suspect that the bike has sufficient torque to maintain 100kph at around 4250rpm without affecting the bikes fuel consumption to any great extent.

In my attempt to reduce the engine speed a I have tried to find a 16 tooth front sprocket to suit the Z750 without any luck. The alternative is to go to a 40T or a 38T rear sprocket which I am reluctant to do given it would require shortening the chain which is a pain to undo if the resulting 15/40 or 15/38 ratio proves unsuitable.

Anyway - my question to the forum is - has anyone tried taller gearing than the standard 15/43 final drive ratio, and if so what was it like? Did it affect 1st gear performance very badly?

Hi Mate ... welcome to the club wave.gif
I would say judging by the lack or response to your first post no one here has done any gearing changes on the 750 Zed :?
Bugga.... try a search on the web to see what you can dig up & please let us know what you find, if anything... also have a look at posting up your details in the intro section ;) we have quite a few zed owners on board with plenty of info about mods etc just not gearing

G'day Robracer,
Given your net name suspect you would go the other way with the final drive ratio and you are well served with a 14T front sprocket being available.
Having searched without success on the net, suspect I will just have to bite the bullet and try a smaller rear sprocket if I cannot live with 5000+ rpm at cruising speeds (sign of my age).
Thanks for your advice.
