Customs tax cut off...

Hey, buying a new suit O/S but what is the price cut off before i pay duty and taxes?

from memory if its got an invoice value of 1000 or more you pay tax.

only way to get around it is if it is sent as a gift

It was a grand when i checked before getting my can last year. You can check on the customs website for exact and whether they still count "gifts" as exempt as im not sure

gift or not its still counted in the $1000 cap

Theres nothing to stop you asking them to devalue the item when they ship it either, they can only say no.. its a mixed response. Some sellers tell you to piss off some say no problemo!

Having been through the pain of having a parcel seized as customs for being over the threshold (and all the subsequent paperwork and fees to get it out!) I would suggest making sure its under the 1000 by whatever means Or if its not an option dont have it shipped through the Post, have it couriered - $1000 limit still applies and you will be stung taxes and fees but Toll/Fedex etc will organise all the paperwork for you.

dam i never knew about the 1000 cut off lucky my alpinestars gears arrived today from the factory in the US and the invoice was $989. Dont know why anyone would buy from a shop in oz as you would pay nearly double

$1000!!! Cool!!! I thought it was only $400 and was trying to talk the guy into sending my exhaust and screen separately so they come in under that! :D :D :D
