2 piece leathers

Tue Feb 19, 2008 9:24 pm

What are people's thoughts on Rjays leathers? They appear to be better priced than most and I know someone that can get them at an even better price but are they any good? Interested to hear people's thoughts on quality of make, how they fit/feel, how they wear and if they do the job if you do yourself a mischief.

Out of interest and to generate a bit of discussion, what are people's thoughts on what the best leathers are?

Cheers, Rob

I've been down the road in a RJays 2 piece suit and it held up really well... It was a few years old and not sure if the quality has changed.

I now have a Shift 2 piece jobbie that i'm hoping to avoid crash testing. :?

I still reckon Collins leathers are the best value in Oz ATM! triple stitched and good thick cow hide! 8) Ring Dave and ask how much. He is pretty good with returning stuff that doesn't fit, which isn't often as he remotely measures you to ensure the correct fit! :)

0412 213 885 Tell him Marty sent ya nad he will charge ya double! Nah, he really is an old mate, so he'll sort you proper! 8)

I can vouch for the Collins leathers (though I haven't crash tested them ... yet). I had a pair of RJays leathers but the jacket was stolen - they were comfortable and after 12 months were still in good condition.

I have been checking things out and can get Joe Rocket GPX R2 and Teknic Chicane suits landed for less than I can buy Collins at the moment due to them being on special. The Teknics are under $600 (Aus), the Joe Rockets are around the $650 (Aus) and the Collins are $700 (don't know if there is shipping costs on that either). Can get R jays cheaper again but have decided to spend the little bit extra and get one of these three brands as people tend to rate them as better quality. I would like to be able to try them on but finding large suits on racks are pretty rare, especially in a variety of different brands. So what are your thoughts on these three brands. How does the quality and fit compare between the three?

I got my Teknics about 2 days ago and I brought them from

http://www.ridersdiscount.com

The 2 peices cost me just over $500 including postage and arrived in about 8 business days. I just tried on the alpinestars in the shops and went by that sizing. The jacket size is almost exactly the same and the pants are a tad bigger but over all happy with both quality and price.

AUSD$ .93us cents go aussie go

That's basically what I'm after Blurr. If the Teknics are as good quality as the others, how can I go past that price? Thanks for your input.

Ok, I've gone out and tried a few different brands on but there is quite a difference in size between them all. Turns out for some brands a 50 / 60 will fit while others don't even come close. None of the cheaper brands in that size fit me! I'm still tossing up between the Teknics and Joe Rockets due to the value for money at the moment.

Blurr, when you say the jacket is almost the same size, is it a little bigger or a little smaller? The Alpinestars 60 is snug but does just fit, so it would be my size. Does the Teknic jacket cover your whole back when not wearing the pants? There will be times when the jacket will get worn with Draggin jeans and I want to make sure my lower back is covered as the Alpinestars 60 felt a little short in the back coverage but the 62 would be too big once it stretches. Your help is greatly appreciated.

This is what pissing me off about my body shape, it's going to be damn near-on impossible to get anything to fit me without have my legs stretched like the Ethan Hawke in Gattaca. I'd like a pair of leather pants, but they're going to have to be tailor-made to fit me as I'm wide and short-legged. If I try a pair off the shelf by the time I find one to fit my waist the knee-sliders are ankle-sliders...

hey Nelso,

mate it is tough I wont deny but you just need to get your head around the euro/american sizing.

Now when I was trying on jackets I found that the euro 56 was tight but probably good after stretch factor is taken into consideration but the 58 was a bit loose.

Now teknic uses US sizing so you will need to convert (there are size conversion apps available on the net). So for my 56euro size that worked out to be 46US. Now the jacket fits great but not as tight as the 56euro but I have more back coverage in the teknic jacket than I would in say the Alpinestar.

As for the pants I went Teknic as well because my jacket and pants have an interlock feature which is required for trackdays. I am usually about a 36inch in pants but I went the 38 for my leathers. I did this as I have pretty decent size thighs so I feel more comfortable in a larger pant so I can move a little more freely on the saddle.

If you need any more info let me know more than happy to help

I can relate Mick, hence I went for leather jeans, not the ones as seen in clubs everywhere (or at least they used to be in) but rather good thick heavy ones, bought mine from Matador In Moorabbin. $375 or something like that from memory.
