More than 6 months actually :D When I lived in Brisbane a while back there used to be a bumper sticker going around, Welcome to Queensland, turn your clock back 10 years :D Did have some advanatges, primarily that smokes were cheap at the time.

Mick - we had the same problem here. The way around it is to feed the antennae into the STB, then feed the STB into the VCR, and finally the VCR into the TV. You may need to buy another couple of leads to do this.

This will allow you to record anything from the STB onto the VCR.

The kids still have a stack of old videos they watch, that why we kept the VCR for their room.

I got it working the way I wanted to orignally but yeah, last night noticed I can't actually tape anything from the STB as my VCR doesn't have an AV channel like my mums so gonna have to frig around some ore, thanks Gos, will look into it.

Mick - can you select the input into the back of the TV ? If you can, then a double-aerial coax plug might work. You still need to be able to select the input that you want the TV to display - do you have at least 1 AV input on the TV ? f you do, and don't want to record off the STB, then just keep the VCR connected to the TV via the normal aerial lead, and use the AV input on the back of the TV for the STB input. The you can 'switch' between inputs, to watch stuff through the VCR or the STB as required. Doing it this way, you won't be able to tape the STB output.

If your TV doesn't have any AV inputs, and your VCR doesn't have any AV inputs, then you could be in strife.....time to upgrade the peripherals Mick - even a cheap Panasonic DVD/VCR can be had for about $200, this is all I used in the kids room, the DVD/VCR combo has 2 AV inputs and outputs, and works great with a $50 Dick Smith SD STB. Piece of piss to set up.

How old is your tele ??

Neka - why do you want a DVD Burner and a HDD in the same unit ?? I don't think these are even made by any manufacturers ?? Never seen a DVD 'burner' in any HDD/ HD tuner combo TV unit ever......DVD burners are only in PC's mate.

I've got one. ;) It's an LG rh7521w. The only problem is the DVD records in a proprietary format and you can't play it on another machine. :(

Gos, have Av inputs on both idiot box and VCR, have the thing working by and large but unable to tape the stb currently, gonna fuck around with it this weekend again probably. Whole reason I bought the stb is for a decent picture on Channel 2, ABC2 being a bonus, so if I can't tape the stb then it's almost fuggin uselss :D

mate heaps of manufacturers make a HDD with an inbuilt DVD burner- this isnt the issue... the issue is, that the older ones are analogue tuner... and the newer ones are Standard Def tuner.. but chan 7 and 10 both broadcast over here, in HD and have different programs for it..

maybe i just buy a new vcr and a bunch of tapes?? i prob tape 1 or 2 shows a week if that, but u kno how tapes end up

Not unless the STB does its own signal out to the antenna loop. Which most usually dont do.
