Thor 50/50 boots

Postby Strika » Tue Jan 08, 2008 6:13 pm

I am Thor...God of Thunder!!! Your Thor?.....I'm so thor I can hardly Pith!! ;)

I have been searching for a neat short length alternative for a summer boot. The Alpine Star SMX's are well vented, but having a full length boot they get pretty sweaty on a hot day. Hence I have been looking for a short length summer style boot to use with jeans. SO for those hot days when I don't want to don the leather pants but still want the ankles and feet protected.

I liked a few different styles that I saw around Melbourne, but no shops had anything in my size! I had settled on what boot I wanted, but now could not find ANYONE in Melbourne with a size smaller than 9! I ended up calling the dist and as luck would have it an old mate now works there! He let me to go out to the warehouse to try some on. Once I find a Size, he then issued them to a shop who I paid and on life went!! I thought it was pretty damn nice of him. I guess it helps he is an old friend.

They are a bit of a Hybrid, not MX but not Rd! I think they may have been originally developed for the Freestyle boys who seem to like feck all protection.

They obviously lack the shin protection of a full length boot, but they look kinda like a trendy runner when on your foot (My missus words not mine).
They have two MX style boots clips to secure them which are adjustable just like a MX boot. The sole is solid but not chunky and they have a stepped heal to ensure the pegs don't slip out the back. They have perforated leather on the inside near the big toes and more ventialtion via a mesh style material on the forefoot and side. The boots come up just over the ankles with good solid ankle protection surrounding them.

They come in a few colours, I bought the Wheat coloured ones. The white just arn't me and the others had naff coloured clips!! I threw them on when I got home (3.00pm) and have left them on to make sure they have no tight points before I wear them tomorrow. They are bloody comfy so far. They feel very similiar to put on as my SMX Alpine Stars did when I first got them! Very plush!

RRP is $199.

I'll update with more comments once I have used them for a couple of Thousand K's! :)

Yeah my mate was telling me about another mutual friend of ours who actually thought they looked great and bought them! He reckons he hasn't got the heart to tell him how hot he looks to other blokes in them!!!

How long have you had the Rockets Nath? A guy in Qld said his fell apart after four months????? Are yours holding together?? I have found all my other Joe Rocket stuff to be pretty good. The only complaint I have is the road race gloves palms wear out very quickly. I have gone to a set of Alpine Stars which are more exxie, but at least they have lasted. 8)

got the shoes for xmas last yr... they hardly look worn really, and i wear em all the time...they are like a sandshoe tho - not much protection..but i can walk around in em ALL day.. i often do!!

i too had a pair of the rocket race gloves (speedmaster 2- $260).. they were the BEST most comfy gloves i ever wore....EVER..but i didnt get much life out of em... tho i was commuting in them, and often wore em in the rain, so wearing wet leather gloves isnt the best for em...

The boots passed the 1050klm acid test yesterday. They remained comfy all day, no hot spots, no pinching and no blisters! They remained pretty comfortable during the really hot parts of the day too, without the usual burning feeling you get from full length boots. (it got to 38 where I was yesterday) Being shorter, they also allowed loads more air to circulate up the legs of my dacks making my entire lower body cooler! For the road, apart from when it's wet, I doubt I'll ever wear another pair of normal boots! These things are pretty damn comfy! 8)

Added another 900 klms to the 50/50 boots today (2000 all up)! STILL no issues with them at all! Faark they are comfy! I'd wear em in favour of most shoes in my wardrobe, let alone bike boots! 8) I just hope they last ok. They havn't appeared to come apart anywhere yet, but 2000k's is a little premature to judge.

They are the silliest, ugliest, most homo looking boots I've ever seen.
It's a shame adults don't make fun of each other like kids do, it'd stop people buying stuff like that!

Just wear normal boots like everyone else and stop complaining.

Awesome Neka! That'll make Two homosexuals (Not including the numerous closet ones, like Gos-those farts are love calls, Hoffy-His constant need be clad in designer clothing concerns me and Wattie's bubble bath episode is a definate give away.) in KSRC!
