Hey rob yes they are dual compound and even with some spirited riding you will get 8,000 out of a rear tyre.Kazz has some on her bike and so far she has 12,000 and still more to go :D

I've been meaning to get some M3s and try them out after all your evangelism Mal...

Just another thing there has been no scalloping on any of the sets of metzlers i have had ;)

Rightio then, I'll be keeping the Metzler M3 option in the back of my mind and keeping an eye out for experiences.

I've gone the road2 path - the hoop will get fitted on Friday.

Hopefully I'll have a chance for a blatt over the weekend and I'll post up some feedback.

Nope. Nothing to see here. Move along...

Robsalvv wrote:The reality of my riding is that 80% of it is road riding and commuting :( It's just not worthwhile me having the pilot powers on when for the most part the rear gets squared off making scratching a bit "interesting".

The edges got great use when I was in Tassie in February. I came back with nice even worn tyres. Since then though, most of the riding has been mostly upright and the rear is now down past the tread wear indicators on the middle. Actually, the tread was a mm above the tread wear indicator a week ago. A ride to Apollo Bay and the Black spur wore them down into the tread wear indicator a lot faster than I would have thought. When there's not much rubber, the middle get's pretty hot. Probably explains the squidgey feeling I got by the bottom of the spur on my last run.

The rear is coming off today. :)

Well, the tyre is on. Surprisingly the rubber feels "stickier" to the touch than I thought it would. Haven't had a chance to test the bike though.

Since there doesn't seem to be too much experience with the road2, thought I'd make this thread a kind of ongoing blog about how the tyres wear and the type of riding.

Tread: Average 5.8mm of tread depth above the tread wear indicators and about 6.9mm depth in total.
Odometer: 27,949 km

Cheers

Mileage: 31622km. i.e. 3673km in 2months of mostly commuting and heavy acceleration, with some twisties. Tread depth at the wear indicators is about 5.1mm so about 0.7mm wear.

New pilot power front, tread depth above wear indicators about 3.1mm.

Ok, I fitted the CT2 road on the rear 2months ago. It feels ok for cruisy riding but there have been a few moments while powering through and out of a tight corner with a high angle of lean, where the rear has got a bit loose and "squidgy"... I don't know whether it's just the edge warming up, the compound not handling the power or a road surface issue... it wasn't like a sudden let go though... so I'm not chucking the tyre out just yet.

So how does the PP front and road CT2 rear work together?

Well, not brilliantly IMO. The bike feels like it's understeering a little - it will run wider than normal if you're not right on top of the game. The combo doesn't feel as good as having PP's front and rear. Anyway, I needed to replace the front during the week and was going to go with a pilot road CT2 but since there was a two week wait I went with another pilot power front. I was hoping that a fresh PP on the front would fix the feeling of understeer... unfortunately it didn't. The understeer is less, but still there... I guess the slightly different profiles don't work ideally together.

And just for something new, I had an attention grabbing experience mid corner with the fresh power... it was like the bike passed a "threshold" lean angle where the bike just suddenly tipped in a bit more of it's own accord! ...it was like the "dropped" a fraction all on it's own. Not a good feeling. The line tightened suddenly and a healthy dose of right wrist was needed mid corner...

If I don't feel comfy with the tyre combination, another tyre change is coming up in a week or two's time.

So at the moment the jury's out on the Pilot road... I'd love to hear other folks experiences though.

Cheers

The only drama with going pilot powers front and rear (which is what I've done to date) is that since I live in Melbs west, it's a bloody long way to anywhere good and there's lots of straight roads, that means that the Pilots square off relatively quickly... I end up throwing money away... so the road CT2 sounded like a good compromise... but if the roads get squidgy whenever I decide to get a bit antsy - well that's no bloody good! The ideal would be a pilot power CT2 that has a harder centre than a normal power so the centre wears better... unfortunately, that's not the case.

They are way more stable than pilot roads and are not scared of the fanging twisties, thers heaps of converts that love there m3s ;) I am curently running dunlop 208RR tyres only as i picked them up cheap(e-bay) and yeah there sticky but even then i cant wait to fit my next m3s

I ran Power front and Road2 on the back of my 06 GSXR 1000 - you know that you haven`t got a Power on the back but they do their job - I used to push to get 6000 on the back with a power, I traded the gixxer in with about 1,000 k's left on the Road2 having done 12,000 mixed weekend warrior and commuting. For the money I think they are great value!
