Alright after much stuffing around, misdirection and just plain and simple having to learn a bit about how things work, I've finally sorted out the problems I was having with full throttle on this bike.

The cause of my problems is shown below...I'm calling it the Bastard Arsehole From Hell Satan Spawn Plug. It was one of the ones going to the coil for 1 and 4 and basically despite appearing to be crimped on to a wire properly, it was in fact barely hanging on (and yes I had checked it earlier but obviously not well enough). Combined with the other wire's connection being a bit dodgy too, it meant I was getting poor spark on 1 and 4, which I then compounded by playing around with too big jets

Jets back to what was originally in it (110), all relevant connectors checked, cleaned and replaced where necessary with nicely soldered ones, and fark me it goes like a rocket now!

I especially enjoyed sitting up the clacker of the bloke in his brand new R8 Commodore out for a spin...mate a 30 year old bike was going as fast as you at about 3:00 o'clock on the playschool clock      and no that's not 300km/h...the Commodore could never go that fast

...and I forgot the camera, sorry Billy...maybe tomorrow

was this part of the additional wiring for those solenoid things ??

Glad to hear it is up and running sweet, its always simple things that cause little problems like this..............I am rather looking forward to a blast on this !!

If you are out for a ride tomorrow, I get back from the young fellah's footy about midday.....

Nah, I would've never done something that dodgy, but I did undo it while I was wiring up the solenoid and didn't notice it was quite that loose

We'll have to organise a ride for next weekend, I'll be spending quality time this afternoon 8)

no worries - I will struggle to go for a ride next weekend, as I *don't have a registered motorcycle* at this present time !!

I am no fan of crimped anything, electrical stuff has to be soldered.....

I'll have to drop around then and bring those jets back

The z650 made its maiden voyage to the northside today, and was the subject of much ooohing and aaahing from our Mexican brothers.........looked great, and I am pleased to report, it also rides great as well. For a bike that is 30 years old, it still feels remarkeably 'tight'. Great job Mick, still a few things to tidy up, but all the important things are done well, its just minor cosmetics now..........and eagle-eyed train spotters should check the chicken strips, or rather, the *lack* of chicken strips !! bloody hell, maybe 5mm if that on the RH side......give it the berries Mick :P

thanks for the spin as well, I am looking forward to getting the MFP12 back on the road girlfriend !!!

Thanks Gos, it was good to get the old girl out for a bit of a longer run...and I'll never pass up the opportunity for a scrounge through the fourth dimension 8)

The next thing I'm going to focus on is the rear end. Swingarm bushes and maybe a new chain and sprockets, then I'll be looking into a set of new shocks. After that I'll probably start getting into stuff like getting the seat recovered and painting bits.

I've managed to score a set of pickups with backing plate and advance mechanism along with an ignitor box off a 750 on ebay to convert from points and condensors to electronic ignition. I'll stick with the current coils for the moment and see how the ignition improves with a more modern setup and hopefully bigger spark...then I might have another look at jetting, needle heights etc when I know the electrickery is sorted out, and the swingarm bushes and rear shocks are probably the next priority....and the farking uncomfortable seat

In the meantime there are plenty of bits that need a good polishing and I need to see if I've sorted out the minor oil leak that seems to have developed. Aside from that it's getting a regular ride to work on the fine days.
