zx6r 2003 and 2004 differences

Postby GForce » Thu Mar 01, 2007 12:41 am

can someone tell me what the difference is? as i am interested in buying one. still flipping between r6, gsxr600 and zx6r.
ill will ride them all but just want to know the diff between 03 and 04. if they they same then i wont bother looking at the 03 as the 04 has lower kms.

colors, stickers, and the suspension in the 04 is a little bit softer, but it is still quite firm. Make sure on your test ride you go over some bumps to see how it feels.

Hey G
if you can go the 05 (afford it) then do it. the 03-04 and worlds apart from the 05-06....I know I've owned both. the only actual difference between the 03 and the 04 is cosmetic. The 05 was a totally new bike as is the 07.

my next bike price range is between 7500-8500. ive seen a few 04 zx6r for around that mark. hard to find 04 r6 and gsxr for that price.
what are the negatives of the 03 and 04 zx6r?

To explain what Dave means, take of all your clothes, climb on to the zx2r and smash your balls into the tanks 15 or 20 times........this will simulate a 5 minute ride on an 03-04 zx6r.

The seat slopes forward towards the tank and they have one of the hardest suspension setups I've come across, so every bump or time you have to brake you'll discover that you can indeed sing those high notes. If you ever have to do an emergency stop you may as well forget having kids.

Having said all that they are a frekin awesome machine and very easy to ride quickly.

Are you buying from a dealer or private?

im sticking to kawa as it is cheaper and gives you more bang for your buck. will most likely get the 04 unless i can find a cheap 05.

As for the ride of the 04 ZX6R, i found winding off the preload on the rear shock to within 4mm of the top of the thread a big help.

Its factory set up for a 120kg rider...68kg specs my arse!

but other than that....

A top bike, by far the best value for money out there, bound to get you into loads of trouble!!!

I believe the 03 is considerable faster - it managed the journey from Japan to Aus a whole year quicker than the 04!

im currently on an 03 and i havent had any issues with it.
make sure u set the suspension preload up as soon as u get as i waited a while and kicked my self after i run 30mm on the rear and 37 ont he front and found this is nice and soft for the big bumps (mind u im 110kg)
ive only cracked mt bits on the tank acouple of times and it isnt pleasant but after a couple of kns u get over it but this has to be a pretty big bump mid corner or something
power delivery is strong from 8k to redline (i usually change at around 13 thought)
i can also recomend getting a good set of tyres this will also make a huge differnance as it would on any bike(im currently running conti sport attacks and loving them)

think you will love a 03/04 6r

I've got an 03 and all i can say is: do it!

Its quicker than my mates 05 R6 and my other mates 04 gixxer 600. Can pull a high 10 second quarter mile if you can ride it well enough. Also pretty good in the corners and will wheely on the power no worries.

Basically, you wont be dissappointed. Mine cost 10k about 6 months ago but its in good nick with a few extras, it was from a shop and everything is more expensive over here in WA.

Good luck!
