Speedohealers, gearing and "WHOA FARK" wheelies

Last weekend I did new chain and sprockets and went up 4 teeth on the rear from standard.
I like -
1. The impression now that the bike has an additional 25 hp
2. The completely unintentional wheelies off the line

I dislike -
1. How quickly the rev limiter now comes into affect, gotta be very quick on the changes
2. Speedo is up the shit, hence the oddo is too
3. higher revs on the freeway

Jury is out on -
1. Fuel consumption ( will definitely have gone to shit, but how much I dont know)
2. How it handles my fave twistie road ( have a go this weekend )

Ok the reason I chose to go up on the rear was simple - it was a JT 45t sprocket I picked up new on e-bay months ago for $20 and I figured if I dont like it I will simply remove it and a link and revert to standard.
On the weekend Ipulled up at the lights beside a realy nice looking West Suburbanite in his foooooly sick looking falcon and I asked if he could pace beside me @ 60kmh so I could check my speedo - 60 road speed = 70 on the dial. We both then turned onto the freeway where he obliged by pacing at 100 - 100 roadspeed = 130 on the dial top gear 5300rpm. For his kindness I then backed of dropped it into 2nd and as strika put it " Hoisted a minger" past his window. Too bloody easy. "Foooly sick"

Now this weekend I am heading for the hills to see how the gearing suits the twisties, I can handle the short gearing and trade off the higher revs if it proves to be worthwhile amongst the hills as this is where I ride most often these days.
Which brings me to questions I have of anyone having had dealings with speedohealers. If I am to keep the bike with this gearing then how do those that have had experience with a speedohealer rate them for ease of fittment, value for money, accuracy etc etc?

Does the 2000 model read the speedo off the countershaft sprocket? My 96 9R reads off a front wheel jig, so resized sprockets won't change the speedo.

It's a bit of a pain for a couple of weeks when you downgear a bike, but after that it's pretty cool to be able to look down and feel like you're speeding everywhere.

Friends who use speedohealers have been very happy with them.

i did similar on my blade (1st i went up 2 on the rear, then next set i went back to standard rear and down 1 on front..similar to 3 on back)..

i found it great for hills riding, tho u are changing a bit more..kinda like a 600..but boy does it accelerate...

You just use a higher gear and dont really notice it too much, I mean how much do you use top in the hills anyway. I find I was one gear higher but it STILL felt like the bike had more "thrust" out of corners and lifted the front easier, so watch the shakes on the way out if you are hard on it.
I LOVE monos anyway so I think its ALL good

Strangely enough with V-Twins it seems to work the other way and you actually want to gear the suckers up instead of down, well in my experience anyway.

Good stuff. You'll need a speedo healer as I believe your bike takes the speedo measurement off the gearbox output shaft. Kinda sucky. You'll be about 15% optimistic I reckon (speedo will read 15% higher than you're really going)...

Weird thing though, when I did the -1/+2 gearing on the RSV, my fuel consumption has gone DOWN. ie my fuel light which used to start blinking on at 120km (don't ask - it still had 9 litres left at that stage. Actually now that I think about it, it's not a little orange light with a fuel bowser on it, but a little orange light with a coffee cup on it, so...), now starts coming on at about 150km.

but have fun with the new gearing...

4t up on the rear ya reckon...cool

its gunna leave darkies outta corners...if it don't hike the front
guess you will get used to it

its all cool..but maybe 2T might have been the way to go

A yellowbox from http://www.powerbronze.com.au will fix the speedo error..

Probably already got it sorted, but heres another link to the speedo healer. http://www.amcmotorcycles.com/ go to instrumentation when you get there. Gives a good description etc. easy fit to the 9 also just plug it in and configure.

I will be playing with gearing soon also. Reckon I may just live with the speedo error till I can find a speedo healer cheap on ebay though.

..for more acceleration (and less top speed )
which puts the speedo out
and it will show that the bike has done more k's than it actually has

hence the Speedo healer
