What Tyre?

Mon Mar 19, 2007 9:44 pm

I am looking at throwing a set of road tyres at the ZX7RR for a track day ....what would you recomend? Was thinking Dragon Supercorsa or Metzeler Racetech, any idea on compound to use, i want good grip but don't want them to last 1 day at the track. :?

BT002 PRO..... I had them on my 05 ZX6R.... and found them to be excellent on the track.... also very good on the road.... I had a soft front and rear. They also wore very well :)

Prior to the 002's i tried.... Pilot Powers, Pilot Power Race's (med soft), bt014's

Thanks for that... I wasn't thinking of the Bridgies but that is an option.

For what it's worth, my last track day I was running M1s and they were great. I dragged plenty of bits down the track (footpeg, toes slider & shin guard), they never even thought of letting go and I could probably get another couple of track days out of them. They may not the as sticky or sharply profiled as the race tyres, but good enough for a lot of fun.

Thanks photomike666.......I have run M1 on my road ZX7R & they were great but as i will be running the RR with a bit more HP I am looking for something a bit grippier, I haven't ridden the bike I am looking for a safety margin

I have a set of ex race 002's (the good ones). Looks like there from Wakefeild or similar right turn track as the left sides look pretty good.
You could probly get a couple of days out em.
Come over and have a look if your interested...

I am interested Dave :) How bad is the right hand side?
Will give you a call to tee up a time.

Go ex race tyres for a cheap option - they'll have plenty f tread left for a track day. Especially if the tyres you picked up were only used for qualifying.

Not sure about the Metzeler Racetech, but I can tell you the Metzeler Rennsport and the Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro are both top tyres.

the BT002s are good too, but I've been told they'll work your sphincter as well as your concentration in the wet on the street...

No more so than the power race's, I found them to be pretty reasonable (for a road spec race tyre!) in the wet, just take it nice n easy..... ;)

this is what my pilot power race's looked like after a day @ wakefield....
