Mick,
is it tripping the breaker ? If not it's not likely to be a short........dodgy connection maybe.......best found by "off" tuning a radio and tracing it along( near, not touching) the cable.........crackles like buggery when your near the break

As this is equivelent to what happens in normal operation when you flick the switch it would not cause the breaker to trip....not that there are any breakers.
