Sydney's warmer weather has fund my leathers wanting. So rather than squid about I decided to buy a pair of pants and a jacket more suitable to the Sydney commute.

After looking about and trying on several items from different manufacturers in various styles. Here's what I bought and why.

I wanted simple, lightweight, cool gear with some level of abrasion resistance and a little upper armour. Wasn't concerned about waterproof qualities either.

Pants- Waldon Miller Kevlar lined jeans. $150. I Tried the Draggins, but they were itchy, the Shift pants were just too lightweight, the Hornee's priced themselves out of the equation and were no better in look or quality than the WM's. I was very reluctant to buy the WM's, as the name has always said "LOW RENT" to me, however the quality of the material, the fit, the style and importantly the wallet all agreed.

Jacket- Looked at some nice Dianese stuff, then a few other brands, Dri-rider, Moto-Dry, Alpine stars, and tripped over a cheaper product called IXON. They had a neat jacket, with decent commuter protection and loads of airflow that fitted nice all for another $150!

So all up $300 for the full summer kit. I used them on the Putty yesterday and they are comfy and really keep you cool on the move. :)

I looked up Ixon and found they have dozens of jacket styles - which did you get Strika?

I had a low speed lowside in the summer 2 years ago, turning right at a T intersection, the road had some insane camber that maxed out my tire, but wasnt clearly visible at the start of the turn. So i went down, got my leg wearing shorts and runners caught under the bike, hands wearing MX gloves into the tarmac, and my shitty RJAY's mesh jacket protected itself nicely, by riding up my arm and letting my skin take the damage.

Ok so this was totally my fault, was playing soccer with friends and left, was real hot so i rode home in the shorts and runners to cool off.
You'd think i'd have learned a lesson from this, i have, now i dont even bother wearing the mesh jacket, i have draggins (black) and they are good for riding, but bad if u walk around in them a lot in the heat (the kevlar is quite coarse). I also have a decent set of gauntlets.

Another thing about mesh jackets, i take pillion, and to make them feel more at ease, i give em the mesh jacket, well when she put it on, i put in the clip thats supposed to keep the back down, when she asked what it was for, i said 'i'll show u' and pulled the jacket upwards. expecting the jacket to give her a wedgie, i didnt pull real hard. Instead the Rjays mesh jacket once again proved its worth.. AU$0.00, it tore, and the jacket rode straight up. I proceeded to laugh and swear a whole lot, whilst my friend looked worried. I'd like to point out that i got this jacket about 2.5 years ago, for roughly $200. So a pretty early mesh jacket by RJAYS. Its solid construction now holds it together on a coathanger in my wardrobe, altho im thinking of storing it in a padded box for safety.

Lainie can probably help with a strap on... believe Leo has this sorted, doesn't he ride in a fishnet body suit in summer? :)

So the jury is still out on mesh then?
OR is it that it NEVER seems to fit properly and slides around exposing limbs and backs to damage?
Anyone buy one of those $160 Joe Rocket two pieces ?
I have to admit to being concerned as they have knee sliders on synthetic pants. Noting the scuffing around the knees of my leathers I am a bit worried what spirited riding would do to them.
I mean anything is better than nothing and i spose it is all relative, Qld summers are a killer and fatigue must come into the equation too.
I still think vented leather is the go but like Gos it depends WHAT I am doing, if its going to be a proper ride its the leathers, to the shops is the draggins and old brando...

All of my off's have been with mesh jackets - firstly an RJAYS which lasted 2 off's before developing a hole, and my current Dri-Mesh which survived 3 - two small slides caused by errant drivers and then the putty incident.
I'm a big fam of the DriMesh jacket - wore it all year round. I have the one with 2 liners - rain and winter.
I'm a big fan of Draggin's cargo pants too. Haven't liked any brand of kevlar jeans, but the cargo's are comfy.
They've survived the same offs (except putty) without damage.
There's some good summer stuff around. And while I know that many will only trust leather, I find myself on the other side of the coin - finding it hard to justify the cost of leathers (track days would be different) when the fabric stuff seems to hold up well enough.

I am a little large to wear leathers without pictures being posted on the internet  , i wear Draggin cargo pants and a Draggin shirt (shirt is Kevlar), both came with CE velcro pads, forearm and knee/shin and i also wear a Dianese back protector at times, KBC helmet and gauntlet gloves. I also at times wear my tri-mesh jacket and will try the bladder soon. at night if a bit cooler i also have a dririder/warm jacket.
