I was just thinking about the M3 on the rear of the 9. Although the edge grip is a bit iffy at times, I am still really impressed with them. I initially started with 38 in the rear, but dropped it to 36. This couple of Psi drop hasn't effected life by the look of it, and I never added any pressure to it for the trip. So with all the luggage weighing it down, I was expecting to come home needing a new rear tyre. I estimate it still has at least 2000-3000 klms left in it. Unless wear rates rise dramatically in the last section of usage. Speaking to a guy who knows a bit about tyres, he tells me a lot of the newer tyres are now very stiffly constructed. Which means lower pressures can be run, without adverse tyre deformation, which in turn allows them to run cooler. 002's are in this league, with tyre fitters all saying they are a stiff carcass. Cold mornings require some finesse to slip the tyres on the rims.
Now, another interesting observation i have made with regard to the M3's is this. Normally, (of course on a closed circuit

) speeds in excess of 140 kph for any consistent time, cause rapid wear of the centre of the tyre. However with the M3's, they have actually stood up well to some quite severe punishment. As some of you know, I have done some track work with these tyres where speeds have been consistently over 200kph for a loooooooooooooooong time. Thank god for those long straights on racetracks hey

And the M3's are still together. I know for certain, that the Rennsport rear would have been fried by Sydney if I had one on, same with a 002, or an 014, and a Qualifier would have fallen apart well before this from past experiences.
So all in all, I will stick to the M3 as a summer/ warmer weather tyre, or when doing long distances. And keep a Racetech or rennsport on the back in the colder months. (although the tread patterns do make wet riding errrr interesting

)
I am still happy with the front Rennies, and If i can find one still hanging about in a shop will stick another on, otherwise will try a Racetech.
One more observation. When they fitted the Rennsport originally, they didn't balance it properly. It was only when above 140 that you could notice it, so I never bothered with dropping back in to have it rebalanced. But at consistently high speeds the front was banging up and down a bit. More a concern in the faster turns than in a straight line. But it made things interesting on the trip home. Especially, as the tyre wore, the inbalance got worse. I will be glad to change it.

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?
