Good Stuff mate

I've not long replaced the rear Metzler Racetech with a Bridgestone 002.

I preferring the 002 as THE best rear I've used to Date.
Still running the Soft Racetech Front but ....... the Shinko 003 has Been the best front, Probably more for feedback as opposed to actual grip levels.
pity they dont work as a pair ... bugger it.

This is how they look after 2000 km. I'm thinkin I'll be pushin to get 5000, so much for a hard centre compound.

Kaz wanted to take a picture of the elephant (Mal did really).... 8)

I'll try to get a pic of mine. I've got nearly 6,000 on the rear and it still hasn't quite got to the tread markers.

and thats why i thought it was strange that z900/zx9 found his to be wearing out quicker than expected. considering you had just come up the doom heavily laden i thought they looked sensational.........

it was also quite obvious from a casual glance that they had been riden as the manufacturer intended.

I seen strikas m3 's last week on a blat and they appeared better than mine then and he called me names like throttle jockey what ever that means, and that was before he went to sydney 8) I have upped the air pressure to 39 in the rear it was at 36,and the elephant on my rear was the last one of a dying species

I was just thinking about the M3 on the rear of the 9. Although the edge grip is a bit iffy at times, I am still really impressed with them. I initially started with 38 in the rear, but dropped it to 36. This couple of Psi drop hasn't effected life by the look of it, and I never added any pressure to it for the trip. So with all the luggage weighing it down, I was expecting to come home needing a new rear tyre. I estimate it still has at least 2000-3000 klms left in it. Unless wear rates rise dramatically in the last section of usage. Speaking to a guy who knows a bit about tyres, he tells me a lot of the newer tyres are now very stiffly constructed. Which means lower pressures can be run, without adverse tyre deformation, which in turn allows them to run cooler. 002's are in this league, with tyre fitters all saying they are a stiff carcass. Cold mornings require some finesse to slip the tyres on the rims.

Now, another interesting observation i have made with regard to the M3's is this. Normally, (of course on a closed circuit  ) speeds in excess of 140 kph for any consistent time, cause rapid wear of the centre of the tyre. However with the M3's, they have actually stood up well to some quite severe punishment. As some of you know, I have done some track work with these tyres where speeds have been consistently over 200kph for a loooooooooooooooong time. Thank god for those long straights on racetracks hey  And the M3's are still together. I know for certain, that the Rennsport rear would have been fried by Sydney if I had one on, same with a 002, or an 014, and a Qualifier would have fallen apart well before this from past experiences.

So all in all, I will stick to the M3 as a summer/ warmer weather tyre, or when doing long distances. And keep a Racetech or rennsport on the back in the colder months. (although the tread patterns do make wet riding errrr interesting  )

I am still happy with the front Rennies, and If i can find one still hanging about in a shop will stick another on, otherwise will try a Racetech.

One more observation. When they fitted the Rennsport originally, they didn't balance it properly. It was only when above 140 that you could notice it, so I never bothered with dropping back in to have it rebalanced. But at consistently high speeds the front was banging up and down a bit. More a concern in the faster turns than in a straight line. But it made things interesting on the trip home. Especially, as the tyre wore, the inbalance got worse. I will be glad to change it. :D

Well Glen, if that's the case, then you really have no other alternative, than to seek out every right handed race track in Oz, to sort your fear of righthanders!!! Mallala, Broadford, Winton, Wakefield, Wanneroo etc., etc., etc.,!

http://sportecm3.metzelermoto.com/versi ... fault.html

First let me start by saying I am an avid supporter of pilot powers, but all this talk about these new M3's got me curious.

Unfortunately (might even be fortunate) yesterday I managed to pick up a puncture on my 3,000km old pilot power on the rear  I wasn't to worried as I would just get the hole plugged, but having the luck I do the nail was at a really bad angle and too big to be plugged. The front was going to be changed at the service on Tuesday so I was just going to put on another power on the rear. We got talking for a bit about different tyres , so I thought I might as well throw a pair on and try them out. Andrew at Miami tyres said the average life of the rear is about 8,000km, and at $475 a set fitted I can't really complain.

I'm not going to write a full review yet as I have barely scrubbed them in, but this is my opinion so far:

They are freakin sweet tyres. As soon as I took off there was already a noticeable difference with the tyres. I was running 34 f 36 rear on the powers, which is what I put in the m3's, but at the moment when you first tip in its rather slow and heavy. I am hoping another 2psi front and rear should solve this. Once you are past the first tipping in stage the tyres just lead you through the corner, they are so much more confidence inspiring its not funny. The bike feels a lot more solid and stable.

So its off to finish off the scrubbing process, will write a full review later on when I have had my fun.

They are definitely scrubbed in now.

I put an extra 2 psi front and rear and that has made a fair noticeable difference. Bringing the pressures to 36f 38r. I certainly gave them a flogging up and down Beechmont rd a couple of times, and then down and back advancetown a couple of times. This included all sorts of corners from posted 30km/h 90 degree turns to open posted 70km/h sweepers. They have a very quick warm up time, and once they are warm they stick like shit to blanket. On most of the corners that I was coming out of hard on the gas they would barely squirm. The feeling and response of the tyres are 10 times better then powers, with the tyres leading you through the corners begging for more  So far I am pretty impressed with the M3's and will continue to use them, it will be interesting to see how many k's I get out of them. The only things I don't like is the slower tip in time compared to powers, and I can use all of the rear with still 10mm remaining of the front. Other then that I'm happy with my purchase, bring on the next good fang.
