Hi folks!
I've just purchased an 04 Z100 (get it in 10 days!) and it has a Muzzy titanium four into one exhaust on it.
It doesn't have a Power Commander on it and I'm simply wanting to know whether this is causing major damage to the engine due to excessively varying air fuel ratios?
Is anyone running a full exhaust without a PC3?
Ideally I can put up with slightly higher fuel consumpion and a slightly lower HP output, for a $1000 PC3.....
Oh, the airfilter is just a standard item if it makes any difference.
Any comments or reccomendations are appreciated.
Cheers!
Darren.

dunno where you are shopping but $1K PC3
up here doin bikes supplies , fits and dyno for about $550
buying the PC3 from the states is around the $400 mark landed

i doubt it would cause any engine problems, probably end up needing to take fuel out any way!
theres a bloke on here that sells pc3's for about $470 delivered, so $550 fitted and tuned is a very nice price. not much gain getting one from overseas really.... but a pipe, thats a different story!

So......
More often than not, it will be overfuelling with a full system?
$600 is still alot of money considering I've just bought the thing!
Can I get away with it with this current setup for a couple of months?

if its lean enough to melt a piston, it would be running like shyte to the observant rider...
but if your really worried, a ~$50 dyno run could tell you if you need to worry or not. even if it does desperately need more fuel, its not gonna blow up if your not giving it a hard time. might run a little warm tho.
GTS32 on here should be able to sell you a power commander for about $470 delilvered, maybe shoot him a PM.
there are plenty of PC3 maps for z1000's you can download, have a look here:
http://www.powercommander.com/210-411.aspx
if you dont wanna fork out the extra bucks for tuning (usually about $200?) then just upload which ever one runs the best. there is one there for a muzzy full system

mine was lean

Cheers folks!
I'll keep an eye on the temp and have a dyno run......
Would love to hear from someone who has a full system and no PC3!

why not ask muzzys if they think it will be dangerous to not have it tuned yet...

remember to do the kleen air removal, it up-sets the a/f ratio meter on the dyno!
Kleen feeds fresh unburnt air into the exhaust and makes the a/f ratio think its leaner than it is.
if you have it blocked you get an accurate reading.
and it will also stop most backfiring probs you may have.
happy hunting

Once I have the bike registered and VIV inspected, I'll PM you Wattie and I'll get you to check this kleen thingo.....
Most cars and bikes will have lean and rich points in the rev range, even as stock standard.

About the kleen Air mod, tried it and it made little difference. (this on a ZX12R) What I gained on swings I lost on roundabouts.
It made the bike better cold but worse when it was hot (dont kow why, this is seat of the pants stuff).
Alex at LAE did not recomend it but did say to block the tappet cover valves. You can either get Muzzy block off plates (for a mint) or simply change the T piece for a straight bit of pipe for $5...
The 12 was lean all through the range but not enough to make it run hot.
The thing with it is that it can be rich at one rev/load and lean at another.
Why not spend the $50 on a dyno run to ensure you are not hurting it.
Save up for the PCIII and dyno, you WILL notice the diff after i assure you.

I think you would be fine without a power commander.Sure it may run a little rich or lean through the rev range, but no enough to harm your engine.Thats for the street we are talking about,if you were racing where you are using the upper part of your revs alot then yeah i would get it tuned. You may find slight glitches in throttle response sometimes and if thats enuff to annoy you, then go a power commander, but for everyday riding i think it wouldnt be a problem.Alot of what you hear is just sales talk from the people who sell these things.
I have had friends who have gone the power commander and tune and they do say that their bikes respond better and run smoother, but weather it is 6 or 700 hundred dollars better, well thats up to you to decide?

the kleen air mod will not give you an HP increase or decrease.
the tap i put in minem would be the same as turning th et into a straight through.
but with a tap you can turn it, ride it and hear the difference then turn it back.
