This is totally off topic, but my instructors asked me to drum up some public interest, so... my capoeira group Zambiacongo is having their 10th annual grading festival in a couple of weeks and there's some public demonstrations if you're interested to come along and see what it's all about. Capoeira is an afro-brazilian art form, blending elements of dance, music, ritual, acrobatics, fighting and is a powerful self-defence. Another way to describe it is as a body dialogue; it is a fluid dance fight that is improvised.
On Saturday 25th of November, there will be a free capoeira demonstration and open roda at the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane 12pm and 1pm, so if you are curious about capoeira come along and have a look.
The finale will be held at the Robina Community Center at the Gold Coast on Sunday 26th of November from 1pm. On this day we’ll be having the grading ceremony for the Zambiacongo students as well as other performances, including Brazilian dance, samba drumming and many more. Entry fee for general public will be $10 at the door.
