Fibbing on your insurance?

Sun Oct 22, 2006 10:05 pm

How seriously do insurance companies take the "speeding fines in the last two years?" or "suspensions in the last 5?" questions. Are they likely not to pay out in a claim? Any guesses how much saying yes or no would increase your premium by?

It may not make any difference to the premium, or it may increase it slightly. Sometimes they just increase the excess.

But not telling them, then having to claim...they may just refund your premium and say see ya later...

I think your riding record would make little difference to your premiums (as opposed to your no claim bonus).

However failure to disclose specific information by a policy holder can see them not pay out a claim.

full disclosure gives me peace of mind

I've been honest and never noticed any great difference on premiums, no accidents  (no seriously)
But if you didnt tell them that COULD make the Policy null and void in case of an accident (surely?).
Likewise if you dont tell them about aftermarket pipes, ignitions etc.
And if they are illegal to start with as well as not being told well you deserve it, not only that you wont get a claim on it (witness $2.5K of c/f).
Dont assume you will be able to put the original on in the case of an accident (as I have heard some wankers say).
a) the bike will be bent, so will the pipes etc.
b) you prob will be too and in no state to change parts
c) you might not even HAVE access to the bike
d) it will prob stand out like dogs if you DO mange to swap it (ie clean dirty etc) unless you have TWO fucked up ones.
e) And finally its called FRAUD if you get caught.

The way I see it is 1 less traffic infringement to save a possible few bucks, aint going to make a lick of difference when you being cuddled by your 7ft tall portly cell mate called Molly...

well form experience telling them made no difference well 30 dollars when the ex was on my car but his excess was 2 grand and mine was only 700, so thats the price. but if its a new bike 2 grand is better than 13 grand to replace it or pay out the bank..

i am going to have a huge excess now but hey thats the price i pay.

and most companies will ask for a copy of your driving record aswell if you make a claim or change insurers..

I'm with Arista, hadn't been asked about the speeding tickets, but they did ask questions about other traffic offences (neg driving, under the influence etc) as well as stuff that could put you behind bars.

Got all my extras on the policy and am better off like that, my bike is worth much more with all the extras on than if it was stock. Each time I add something new, I send them a copy of teh invoice and they just add it to the policy! Haven't had to make a claim yet, but I reckon it's money well spent, never too carefull!

The insurance companies take it very seriously...

Your little lie may save you a bit in a premium, but that premium will not be worth the paper it is printed on....

And yes when it comes claim time, that is when you have to provide your licence history etc. for the last five years..... which depending on the contents of said history, will either:

A) Increase or premium and/or excess or
B) Render the policy null and void......

And don't think that it may end there, as if they deem it serious enough you can be nailed for attempting to defraud also.... insurance fraud costs us all in the way of higher premiums.....so they don't mind taking the fraudsters to the cleaners.... which is a good thing IMO!

I've got a couple of bits and pieces that I never got around to adding to my policy. The akra I got in the "race kit" is being covered as a standard accessory, and like the after market screen, is cheaper than the stock one anyway so they are happier to pay for it than the stock stuff  8)

mate i wouldn't risk it just tell them the truth or u could find out that u've been paying insurance for nothing.

that would suck more than paying an extra little fee.

there is many companies that ask for a driving record when making a claim

that includes a theft claim despte your driving history not making any effect on your bike being stolen

worst case , lie and they cancel your policy and you are out of pocket for theft or damage

worse than that is you destroy a couple of cars and you are then also up for that as well
