Well i pulled the PC off and went over the wiring harness and couldnt find anything. I tried to get the self diagnosis thing going but had no luck. Either that or there was no recorded fault, cause the FI light didnt start blinking :?:

Should point out that the fuel pump has been pretty noisy. You know the noise it makes when you first turn the ignition on and it primes the fuel. Well when you start the engine it keeps making that noise. I dont think it did that before but i might be wrong. Could this mean a fuel pump or relay problem might be causing the engine cut outs?

I really appreciate all the input fellas, cheers!

how hot was the bike??...remember it was hot when it 1st failed, and was suggested the wiring shorts out underr heat...failing that...might have 2 bite the bullet and get a mech 2 look at it??

Nah hasnt been running hot. Im trying to track down the prob myself, i kinda spent all my cash on the bike  Goin for a decent ride tomorrow, will see how it goes.

Id say if the FI light didnt come on you may have go the problem
I find it a bit hard to beleive that the connections got "wet" when you washed it, but then I dont know where you put the PCIII, and stranger things have happened.
I know mine was OK once we got that FI light off (still cant remember what it was but  ).
Give Alex a ring at LAE on (07) 3865 6122
He wont remember me but tell him you are on ksrc_au and he will prob tell you what it is (the FI light I mean)

Well here's a little update just incase anyone is interested.

I followed the advice from several people i got from different places and took off the Power Commander. Rode the bike around for a couple of weeks and didnt have it cut out on me again. I emailed powercommander and told them and they suggested that i reset the PC and reload the map. I did and put it back on. Went for a ride yesterday, got to 120km and fuel light came on. I was riding what i would describe as mildly, definatly not going hard. Anyway it was almost dead empty by 150km. How's that for fuel economy

I also started to take more notice of the poping that the exhaust made. Yes it did this from the start, but i just thought that was normal. Went for a little ride today to further investigate the popping. Accelerating in first and backing off quickly resulted in much loud popping. I actually got a few cheers from some construction workers as i went by. I went to a quiet road and watched the exhaust in the rear mirror when it was popping. Bloody hell! No wonder i was getting cheers, bloody thing was blowing flames out the back end! :o Now while this no doubt looked very cool, my limited knowledge told me this might indicate lean running. Took it by my mechanic and he checked the fuel mix with the sensor on his dyno. Yep lean. Real lean.

So i rode home slowly and took off the PC. Yep still popping out the back end. :x Anyway, im taking it in to let the pro's try and figure it out. Bloody dissapointed though, i hope i havent been damaging the motor riding it like that. I havent heard any sounds like rocks ratting around so im guessing that means its not pinging. I hope not :(

wouldnt be lean if its blowing flames out the back it would be rich and the unburnt fuel is burning when it gets oxygen.

Take it too a expert thats part of the deal with a pc3 you have to get a custom map from someone that knows how to operate a dyno and it will be all good after that.

If you live in brisbane we all recomend alex at lae because he is a legend.

I remember when he did my 250 a while back and i had to wait till he was finished with the turbo busa......or ya having a coffe and theres a dirty 12r over in the corner then ya have a closer look and see the nos bottle.

The PC3 already has a custom map. I have the recipt for the install and tuning of it. And its not just the PC, i disconnected it and was still getting the afterfiring.

I originally thought it was too rich myself, thinking that the excess fuel was just burning up in the exhaust, but i read its when it is too lean and doesnt burn properly in the cylinders, then the unburnt fuel ignites in the headers. I know for certain it is running lean as i took it to my mechanic and he checked it by putting a meter thing in the exhaust(the thing they use when your bike is on the dyno).

Well just stopping sounds weird if its overfueling or over fueling it should be running like a dog all the time.

Take it too a expert could be a dodgy injecter because you dont know if it sat for six months and got a dose of jelly fuel or if the previous owner used no frills fuel to save 2c a liter.

I wouldnt mess with it if you could burn out a valve take it too a reputable bike mechanic the doolers you save trying this and that could cost you a valve job or simaler.

whoever dynoed it would probably be okay.

Just incase anyone cares, i took my bike into my local super mechanic the other day. Like i said, running a bit s#*t , using heaps of fuel etc. Hasent decided to cut out on me again. Anyways Steve at MaxPower in Wollongong chucked it on the dyno, and fiddled with the map a bit. Didnt do a full fine tune, but sorted out the lean running and stuff. Reckons it got 116hp at the back wheel too which i was pretty happy with to say the least! Anyway its off on the big snowy run tomorrow to see how she really goes. Cheers for everyones input, ride safe!

How old is the power commander on it?I have a friend who sells a lot of these and he says its not uncommon for pc's to fuck up.This sounds like your problem to me.You say you disconnected it and it ran fine but when you reconnected it ,it started playing up again?

Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:28 pm

Yeah well i did the big ride from the Gong to Threadbo. Ran great for about 400km then started being a dog again. No flames, just running crap. Got home and rang my mech. He suggested i take off the PC and check the plugs out. Removed PC, stopped playing up. Changed plugs. Done few hundred K's since and has not stuffed up since. I think that the bloody PC has some nasty gremlins in in.....

Piss off the PC, you don't need it anyway.
