hey mate this may be completly wrong but it may be the thermostat not opening fully when warm so allowing the bike to cool enough normally but on hot days or when the bike is under load it overheats

could be.... could be leaky hose...could be blocked radiator core.... could be lotsa things...unless u can pressure test it tho...

just had my car doin the same thing..was the water pump leaking...fixed now...

Planing on attacking it in earnest tomorrow or Monday, got a feeling it's the water pump, certinaly something wrong with the thermo fan too but that might be as simple as a fuse..

check fluid level, not from the reservoir only but open the cap on the radiator as well

- check the radiator cap. The fluid needs pressure to have high boiling point. If old, replace it anyway for $8 (BP servo)

- check whether the fan is working (I thought you had it switched?)

- check fan switch

- most difficult: check thermostat

Yep the above advice is spot on.
My Spada used to overheat when run on the highway. (might explain why the dealer sold it to me so cheap- didn't tell me about it though.)
Turned out a few problems were present- radiator cap (main culprit), fan switch and water in cooling system rather than coolant.
Scenario was- radiator cap wouldn't hold pressure, so water boiling point was 100 degrees rather than higher (under pressure held by cap the boiling point is higher) and faulty fan switch wouldn't turn fan on. Seems Honda has a weird setup- both the CB400 and Spada have 100 degree fan switches. Too late if you are running water only in the cooling system and the cap doesn't seal. Took me ages to work it out too. I changed the thermostat as well suspecting it but it had no effect. BTW Repco sell equivalent thermostats for $15 or so. Honda wants $60 for the same item- might be the case with Kawasaki.
My HR Holden had a weird case of overheating a few years ago, with a NEW thermostat. It never boiled EXCEPT when I leftmy girlfriends place after the car had been exposed to sub-zero temperatures overnight. It was usually garaged at my place. Turned out to be the thermostat. (new) I never worked out why.

I would be going for the flush job with a bottle of radiater flusher from supercheap if the bike has done 100000kms they get a build up of gunk and dont transfer heat so well.

Just make sure you follow the direction and when your done spend about half a hour with a garden hose getting the stuff back out.

I mean if the water is disapearing it could be the head gasket or a cracked head bt you dont want to go there yet.

new thermostat and cap and refill with some premix and it should be okay.

Check the core of the radiater externaly for a build up of bugs and mud and stuff that stops airflow through the radiater as well you can remove these with a gardenhose.

Just a long shot Mick but have you (and RR I guess) always topped it up with coolant or just water?
If water, then over time you may have diluted it enough to signifigantly drop the boiling point of the coolant.

Just picked the bike back up from RR, they couldn't find any prob witht he thermo fan, hardly surprises me as unless you actually ride the bike for a bit she remains reasonably ok temp wise.

Thermo fan not working as stated above and could well be the ONLY cause and indeed I certianly hope so, will be sussing it out tomorrow in depth but nay ideas appreciated.

The suggestion of a new bike would sit well if I was a bit more financial, alas i'm not... so, this thing given it's aesthetics and the fact that it's now done >100,000 ks will sell for SFA so i'm looking to ride it into the ground basically.

Of course a working cooling system would help it's longevity enormously...

Have you bled all the air out of the coolant system?
There will be a bleed screw near the thermostat and may even be one near the water pump.
