I realise you didn't ask me directly, but for me it went like this... I looked at the bike, I looked at the tools my Dad had pilfered from the factory when it shut down, I looked at the bike again, said to myself "How hard can it be?" and started unbolting stuff.
Haven't had a rod come through the cases yet, and with the money I save in mech fees, I manage to keep a second bike on the road.
Ultimately, given how easy it is to do most mechanical work, how much advice and wisdom is available at boards like these, there's no excuse for leaving your servicing to a dealership workshop.
